Did you try disabling Hardware Acceleration in web browser?  Are you using Firefox?

  • yaya2011 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Yes, I using Firefox and I don't disable Hardware Acceleration and when my computer freezing my hardware is cold.

I'll bring my mbpr 13 saturday 10/05/2014 and we will see what they will get me as ********.

How much we are with problem? Perhapse we can engage a complaint?

  • EarthBased Level 1 Level 1 (20 points)

I would try disabling though it will slow scroll speed; a troubleshooting step.  Were you using the new Firefox 29 when it froze latest?

Wow. I just found this thread while trying to solve this issue on my computer. I didn't read through the whole thread yet, but I wanted to add my experience. I bought a new Retina Macbook Pro 13 in February, and almost immediately had the freezing issue. I contacted Apple Support online, followed their directions, and encountered the issue again a few days later.  At the end of March I finally made it in to the Genius Bar. After running all of their tests and finding nothing, they un & reinstalled Maverick, and said that if it happened again I should bring it back and would probably be given a new computer.  Well, it happened again, so last week I brought it to a different Apple store known in the area for their superior service. Unfortunately, I had an awful Genius Bar experience, with a rude Genius who barely paid attention to what I had to say, and insisted that it had to be an issue with my router. As directed by the Genius, I called AppleCare, who said it couldn't be an issue with the router, and directed me to erase everything (I had transfered everything from my previous computer) and reinstall again.  After this did not solve the problem, I called AppleCare again, who said that they could not solve the issue and directed me to go to the Genius Bar again.  At this point I was fed up, especially after the really negative experience I had had at the Genius Bar, which I had communicated to Apple in their feedback survey sent after the appointment.  I suppose my complaint was forwarded to the Apple Store, because I received a phone call offering to replace my computer.

I received a new Retina Macbook Pro 13 yesterday, and it just froze again. From the little I have read on here, I assume there is not much I can do at this point.  I just disabled hardware acceleration in Firefox, so maybe that will help. Hopefully this issue will eventually be resolved. It's really unfortunate, because my entire family has been Apple devotees for many years (my father bought his first Mac in the 80s,) and this is the first time we've had any serious issues. This situation is really making rethink my loyalty.

Did you update to Firefox 29?

  • bjano_ Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I had a freeze with the latest firefox.

It seems to me that there are two different issues:

    - one that was detailed a few pages back: keyboard and trackpad locks up, but the system keeps running

    - and an other where everything freezes completely.

The latter seems to occur when playing videos with firefox, and I haven't had the other one since a while. (but it has happened too)

In addition I had a kernel panic when connecting an external screen, but that's probably unrelated.

By the way, it doesn't follow from the topic title and from the first message, but this topic is about first type of freeze: keyboard and touchpad stop responding, but the system keeps running. This is rather clear from the first several posts. And it seems that this problem is resolved to most units, and to those who have still malfunctioning units the only way is to try to exchange them. So no further progress is expected for this particular problem.

As for the total system freezes/crashes -- they should be discussed in a separate thread. I hope this forum has some kind of administrator/moderator who can close this thread and/or put "see solution here" link to one of the earlier posts (e.g. Oli.S7's or that of facelikeanrss ).

I posted in this thread because I purchased a new mbp 13" retina model that had the track pad/keyboard freeze problem. I went through 3 of them. They all had the same problem No matter what update I did or any other trouble shooting method. Nothing worked and nobody at apple could fix it. It is a known issue with these specific models and you cannot tell me otherwise. I do not even use Firefox so I am not sure why that would have anything to do with it. I personally think it has something to do with the retina 13" because I went ahead and returned mine and spent another 200$ on the non retina model with the exact same specs, except for the retina, and it runs perfectly. It is not a user error it is apple. Period.

No problem, it is not your MBP but it is an Arduino IDE+Driver problem. Infact this issue is well known, it happens on every Mac system.

  • wronekk Level 1 Level 1 (15 points)

I mean that the restart problem just happens and i dont see any thing special about it. But when suddenly I got symptoms of freez prob while never having the problem in past months it is getting interesting...

  • thunderix Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I think that, now, just a few rMBP are affected by this problem.

I bought my first MBPr Late 2013 one week after the release, it was impossible to use it, it crashed almost every hours, so i decided to return it.

In december i bought a new one with another configuration (16GB, 2.4 GHz) and I've never seen any freeze on this machine. Probabily some machine (just a very little percentage) are out some boundaries.

My suggestion is: if you experience the freeze issue within the first 14 days, ask for replacement.

Apple continues to ignore this problem.

It happens with MBP retina 13'' with Firefox and Chrome and is related with OSX 10.9, never happened with 10.8

  • Mattijah Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I am still having the same problem with MBP Retina 13, OSX 10.9.2... So annoying
