    HI Albert,

That is a good question. Indeed, i have ran a Apple Hardware Test and a reset on SMC controller. I have not found any hardware faults. In the mean time i assue, it is an Hardware to software compatibility issue. Since my macbook air 2012 model with OS X installed does not have this freeze issue. IF you would like to ran the tests i have linked them below.

    Apple Hardware Test- http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509

    SMC reset- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Pls leave "this help me" or "THis solve my questions" IT helps me lots!

I have just posted the feedback and linked this thread. I have the 512GB 2.6GHz Macbook Pro Retina model and have experienced the issue twice since purchasing the computer yesterday. First time just thought it was strange. Second time is infuriating because I lost a lot of work. I had Microsoft Word open both times, iTunes and Safari open in the background. I wasn't downloading anything, but was typing in Word both times it occured.

I do have one question though. Both times it has occured with me my computer was disconnected from its charger, and I was using word. Where I had used the computer for a good 8-10 hours on its charger without a problem. Was everyone else off the charger when it occured? It was probably a case of I was typing more than I was during that time, but a coincidence non the less.

I hope they fix this issue ASAP because this is infuriating me. I love apple, and have been waiting for so long for these new models to be released so I could update from my Macbook Air. After reading all of your posts I am starting to wish that I had waited.

    Hi Dabellinator,

just out of curiosity did you buy the 13" 2.6ghz 512ssd?

I have the 15" 2.6ghz 512ssd and haven't encountered this problem and am hoping not to.

    Hi just another dude,

Yes I have the 13 inch model. I was very close on choosing your model but decided that the 13 inch was more convienient for my line of work. From what I have read it does appear the 15 inch computers may not be effected by this issue, so lucky you

I'm new in Apple World. When they discover a software issue, how much time generally they need to fix that?

around 1 to 2 weeks. that would be estimated time if apple is aware of the problem. So pls provide feedback or call apple support/care so they can raise the issue.

I had already a problem with my Macbook Pro (8GB/256GB) before the system froze up:

For example, while having Safari running and not any other program, I start iMovie (latest version: 1.9GB) and it takes about up to 8-10 seconds instead of about 2 before. When I check the process with the activity monitor it shows IMovie when starting and after 6-8 seconds it says in red letters: "not responding", but starts in a windows then 1-2 seconds later. (this example does not work, when I just boot freshly into the system. Everything works fine until doing some work.)

I checked the console and got nearly every minute: "The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)" I

I re-installed the system, installed 1-2 programs and the system froze up for the first time (with ac adapter plugged in). I made a SMC-Reset and the delay in loading some programs is still there. And the console does still show the "USB error message".

    Hi,

I can confirm that I'm having the same problem on the new Haswell rMBP 13" (2,4 GHz, 8 GB Ram, 256 GB). It happened while I was browsing the web with Safari (and one active download on the Mac App Store). The cursor stuttered for couple of times and then the big freeze came in.

I have just posted feedback to Apple and I encourage others to do so as well.

    Hi atari72 and jurajhomola

I understand your fustration. In the mean time do not reinstall OSX as it does not solve the problem. All we can do is wait for apple software update. and atari72, i can confirm that the console meseege u posted is the same as everyone who has the same issue. Please post feedback to Apple so we can resolve it soon. !Feedback link below.

Please remember to paste the code you encountered.

    Hi all

Just as an update from me, I did do a SMC reset last night and since then so far I've not had a freeze although I still get the rather strange error in console.

Its possibly coincidence since its an intermittent issue and I haven't worked out a way to repeat it intentionally yet but for anyone having this do try the SMC reset it doesn't hurt anything and takes all of a couple of minutes

Hopefully a proper fix will be forthcoming, and all those that have just switched from Windows bear with it generally Apple stuff does "just" work but in recent years the introduction of a new operating system and hardware at the same time has resulted in a few quick fixes having to be released.

    Hi Apple Community

I can confirm that my late 2013 13" rMBP 2.4, 8GB, 256GB powerhouse locked up after 2 hours out of the box which displayed the symptoms that most of this thread has described.

Seems to feel like a software issue!
