I will repost my personal thought and position.

I have bought a 1600€ macchine, it have 4 days of life, it is identificate like a Pro macchine. In my opinion, software or hardware issue  dont care, i have already ask an exchange for security...if si software issue i will waiting the update with my new exchanged macchine.

For me, dont exist reinstall the OS after 4 days of usage of a brand new computer...this is just crazy

nobody tells you you have to do it, some of us are here to find an alternative before apple will issue an update (as they always have done in the past). If you want to really show apple your disappointment just give back the machine and ask for a refund.

I have just got a call from Apple's senior support advisor. He acknowledged that the problem I reported exists in other users' machines and that Apple are working on a solution. He didn't say anything if this was a software problem or not. I am not sure if this is official enough for you.

BTW Just to confirm others' reports: I haven't had a single freeze since I connected my USB mouse.

I guess I am not worried really now. Either it's a software problem an update will fix or a hardware problem in which case I'll get a replacement machine. Sure, it's an annoyance but that's fate of early adopters since discovery of fire.

Keep calm and have a USB device connected.

that was my point: expressing disappointment might feel better but really doesn't help moving forward. (e... si)

That should help, as long as it's on the USB Bus, it shouldn't be an issue.

On the disucssion of "how many users are experiencing this problem," it's interesting to note that there isn't a single discussion about the issue over at Mac Forums...until my post yesterday:

    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-notebooks/304991-macbook-pro-13-haswell-k eyboard-trackpad-freeze.html#post1546826

I'm eagerly awaiting my rMBP 13, i7, 16, 512 and have my USB stick in-hand ready to go.

Many thanks to all the folks who have provided hours of work and input here.  I too am confident that a fix will come and don't mind having the USB port plugged until then.

My MBP just had a freeze.
As I test, I did nothing.
    Waited.
    Keyboard and Touchpad remained dead.
After a couple of minutes, the screen got a little darker.
Usually right after that it goes into sleep mode. Here it took another 30 seconds or so, then it went in sleep mode.
I waited one minute, pushed the power button and it was back to life from sleep mode. Keyboard and touchpad responding fine.

In the log I see, that the whole process as described (freeze, wait, go into sleep mode, pushing power button) took 6 minutes all together.

Many people are having this issue multiple times.  Patiently yet frequently checking for software update

Having the same problem, encountered a couple of freezes and the same code in the console appears a few times every minute and can confirm that plugging in a USB 2.0 mouse stops it appearing. However i tried the same with a USB 3.0 flash drive, Lexar Jumpdrive to be specific and the code in the console keeps appearing, not sure if it is specific to USB 2.0 devices that provide the quick fix.

On a mac forum, someone posted, he has the new MBPr, too. He has been using it for 2 days without any freezes. And: he does not have the errors in the syslog.

Now that is the kind of news I was afraid of. Because this means: my hardware is obviously different from his.

I was using my new MBPr for 1.5 days without any freezes to, but 3 days ago i had one freez. Frequency is completely random. I think more important information is that, ppl with older version of MBPr have the same problem.
