The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brigtness keys and volume control keys. i have use apple hardware test but no problem are found.

This is the standard buold for late 2013 13inch retina. So no Problems...anyway...seems that this build is buggy

I havn't read every response here so sorry if this has already been mentioned by somebody else but it seems to me that the main problem is with the particular build (13A2093) that the 13" haswells come with.

The other builds A603 from the app store and A3017 that comes with the 17 inch don't seem to be having many issues. So I'm sure once apple releases a software update everything will be fine. (In the mean time just remain clam and plug in that USB device )

Why there are different builds of mavericks for each macbook is the thing I'm interested in knowing. What are the differences (if any) between each and why not just release on the same build (A603) for all macbooks?

I have 2 days old 13" retina haswell macbook, and the keyboard/trackpad has frozen twice already.  I've been on the move, so there were no cables or USB devices attached.  I'm running pre-installed Mavericks build 13A2093.

Apple tech support told me to reset SMC and NVRAM, and I did, but since this is happening only rarely, I can't yet tell if it helped or not.

Still, every few minutes, I get notifications into console log, sometimes multiple in few second intervals:

30/10/13 16:03:08,000 kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

Here's the trackpad details from System Information, in case there are any differences with the trackpad:

    Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad:

      Product ID:          0x025a

      Vendor ID:          0x05ac  (Apple Inc.)

      Version:           2.24

      Speed:          Up to 12 Mb/sec

      Manufacturer:          Apple Inc.

      Location ID:          0x14500000 / 2

      Current Available (mA):          500

      Current Required (mA):          40

Just suffered my 2nd freeze today (only happened four times since last Thursday).  Yet again I used my iPhone to connect via Mouse Pro (air mouse/keyboard) to take control of the keyboard/trackpad and found again that going to system preferences, trackpad and selecting 'Set Up Bluetooth Trackpad' immediately clears the issue.

Obviously this is only a temporary fix but might help some of you that aren't able to use the other methods listed on here.

I had been reading this thread before getting my rMBP (late 2013, 512GB SSD / 2.6 i5 / 16GB RAM) in the mail yesterday, and was hoping hoping hoping it wouldn't happen to me. No problems at all during setup (transferring 200+GB of files from old computer, downloading updated iWork apps, and encrypting my hard drive with FileVault). And then this morning, as I'm working on MS Word 2011, I get the dreaded hang. Noooooo! Only once so far, but definitely the same symptoms mentioned here: unresponsive trackpad and keyboard (except the power button). Only fixable through a hard restart, closing and opening the laptop after a few mins did not work. Apple, get on this!

A temporary solution has been suggested a douzen pages back and it seems to work for me:

every time your Mac freezes, just close the lid and wait for 20-30 seconds, after that the Mac will work like a charm until the next freeze.

So, there's absolutely no need to press down the power button and lose work.

That solution does work but is counter productive for me and other people that cannot have any kind of freeze ups. I am a part time DJ and rely on my Macbook not freezing at all when I'm live. Luckily my freeze up has only occured while I was home. I sold my old Macbook to purchase this new one so I have no alternative but to perform with this MBP.

Has there been any official statements confirming or denying that this is a software or hardware issue?

you can try to plug in any usb (2?) device, that appears to prevent the freezes. being a dj, I suppose you have some kind of usb device connected at all times, or otherwise a mouse or flash key shoud do.

My DJ Controller is connected via USB but has that solution been confirmed. I'm not trying to be rude, i'm just worried because I have a show this Friday and I'm freaking out here.

So I just got off the phone with a senior support person and told her of my problems with the hang on my 2 day old MBP

And she said they are aware of a software problem but she recommends an exchange on the machine. So they are sending me another one expedited shipping and I hope that one works. I going to keep replacing until I find one that works.

Long time rivarly between live performers and Dj's. lol. Imagine your amp was unplugged during a show of about 200 or more people as you were performing a solo.

Joseph you can check this for yourself. Plug in your usb device and then press cmd+space bar, then you type in "Console" and press enter.

Check if you still get the error about the mouse/keyboard in there. It normally pops up every minute. If this is not the case anymore then your good to go.
