I think this tells a lot about the nature of the issue: software problem! Fix should be coming soon!

I have MacBook Pro (early 2008) Core Duo 2, 160 GB HD, 4G RAM 15''. I've updated to Mavericks last weak and I started to encounter FREEZING. It's very annoying.

I have done the following with no luck:

    - PRAM resetting.

    - verify Disk Permission and Repairing.

    We want a quick solution.

When you say FREEZING, are you referring to the trackpad and keyboard freezing, i.e. the topic of this thread?

If so, this pretty much proves software (Mavericks) is the cause.

iDevelope, Freezing as in that the computer won't do anything or the trackpad/keyboard freezing?

If its your keyboard/trackpad could you try and go to the Console and check if your error (if its there) corresponds with the one given here in the thread (or just copy paste and we will check it)

You can navigate to the Console by clicking on Launchpad -> Others -> Console. If your trackpad is freezing then you can press cmd + space bar and type in "console" and press enter. Or just hard reset and boot back up and go the the console.

I'm eager to find out if your having the same error code as most of us have. If so then it would be 99% a software issue.

I just purchased a new macbook pro retina (2013 late model) - 8gb RAM, 512 SSD and when I turned it on for the first time I had issues where the empty typing fields (Apple ID) appeared not to register any keystrokes but in actuality it did.

Also, if you hit the back button on the screen, the next image would have two images displayed at the same time (the previous screen) plus the current screen.  Finally, connecting to WiFi takes multiple minutes to connect.

I've been able to get through the start up process and it seems to have gone away. I'm assuming this is more a software issue than a hardware issue. Thoughts?

Same exact thing happened to me. I was able to complete the start-up process (Apple ID etc.) as well. Mine is a MBPr 4/128.

I didn't have any Wi-Fi issues though. You should try rebooting your router.

GenXGamer, to me it seems indeed a software issue. If you think it's resolved and works as you expect it to then great. If not I would return it back to the store and replace it with a new one (within the 2 weeks grace period).

    Good luck.

Covent Garden is a beautiful store - stopped by while on a visit to London not long ago.

Taking my rMBP late 2013 in to the Fashion Valley San Diego, CA store today to swap it out -- in addition to the keyboard/trackboard freeze (which has been fixed temporarily by leaving a USB flash drive plugged in), I've had the unit suddenly power off twice for no apparent reason.

This isn't something I've seen reported, so I'm concerned about a hardware issue with my particular unit and want to swap it out before my 14 days are up.

Same issue for me on new rMBP 13" 2.6GHz 8GB RAM 512GB. Had computer for 6 days and it's happened 3 times so far.

Adding report to indicate scale of the problem - seems like this is happening to a lot of people so let's hope it's a priority for next software update.

Wise decision, I think. Sudden power off is a completly different story.

It's funny how people say we should take this pain since we are "early adopters".  Several UNIX admins report to me, and I have been one for over two decades.  If anyone released a product that was constantly spamming the kernel logs with errors, they would have some explaining to do.  I understand the lock-up is intermittent, mine didn't occur until I had been using it for ~4 hours.  But the trackpad errors appeared as soon as it booted up the first time.

Fit and finish of this product is sub-par.  Assuming all Late 2013 13" rMBPs received the same OS image, then:

    1)  There exists two populations of these laptops, one that has the error, and one that does not.  This points to hardware.

    2)  All of these 13" laptops have the issue.  Could still be either hardware or software, but likely software.

If condition #2 is true, then whoever released this from QA is incompetent.  If they get around a hardware issue with a driver kludge, then can I expect this to crop up in other OSes I install?

I ordered my MacBook Pro 13" a few days ago and it's scheduled to get here by tomorrow. After reading all the issues with this laptop I'm inclined to ship it right back without even opening it. If I wanted to deal with a buggy computer I would have gotten a pc for $500. We are all hoping that this is a software, not a hardware issue. Apple has not confirmed that and it's possible that the whole line is messed up.

There was another issue a few years back with trackpad/keyboard and it turned out that there was a hardware problem. See the link to this thread:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1365569.

We don't know that this is a similar issue or not, but Apple is not making a statement as to the type of issue we are dealing with and we are supposed to wait and risk getting stuck with a very expensive buggy computer.

This is a really bad customer service...hundreads or people caling, commenting on the thread, and not one official comment from apple to reassure people on the type of problem we are experiencing here.

I'd rather wait a few months, let them iron out the kinks and then decide if I still need to re-buy this laptop. We are paying top dollar because we expect better from apple, not pay $1,500+ and have these issues.

I have the same problem too!

Mine is the new macbook pro 13" 4GB Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

I contacted apple and they asked to do PRAM and SMC, did not work.

Apple asked me to creat a new account and it did not work.

Went to Apple store and they did some tests and did not work.

They exchanged it with a new and now on the 2nd day i have the same issue.

No 3rd party apps downloaded, only web brosing and it still freezes.

I guess i have to return it back before the 14 day return police pass.

This happened to me also.  In addition to freezing twice, when I entered in characters in the password field, it would not input the characters properly.  I had to re-click in the password field to enter in the characters again.  I'm hoping this is software.  Otherwise, time to return it.
