Its weird bc the drive was working fine last night.  I just plugged in an external hd and it seemed ok so i guess i need to format the usb drive.  Just all seems like too much of a coincidence...

Hello everyone, had my haswell mac for a full week now (7 days), and just started to freeze today! 2 freezes in a row! Scared me quite a bit.

However, I am unable to find any error log in my console relating the the USB issue, is this something I should be worried about as it may be a different issue?

Most things in my log is from Chrome Helper (even right before the freeze and me shutting it down manually). There is not one single trace of anything mentioning USB.

    OS X 10.9 (13A2093)

    8GB RAM 256G SSD

    Please help!

mdworker is spotlight, and the fact that the light on the drive goes on and on means that spotlight is indexing your drive, so if it's a big one it might take a while. to avoid this, open spotlight preferences, click on privacy and drag the drive there, the indexing should stop immediately. also, i seem to remember that usb3 devices don't 'fix' the freezing issue, but usb2 do 8im not 100% sure about that though).

Another issue with the macbook I encountered is the fact the color load wheel keeps spazzing whenever i do anything ie opening browser, changing programs, etc. I was thinking there was an issue with lag on my computer. It wasn't until I had a full freeze of my mouse and keyboard that I checked the internet news and found this thread. The power button was the only useable option to fix the freeze. Closing the lid for a minute and opening did nothing. You have to hold down the power button. I am hoping it does not happen again. But already this is enough for me to want to return the new macbook pro.

    I have the Haswell 13" /2.4ghz/4gb ram /128gb

That sounds a little strange and different from the keyboard/touchpad issue. I would return that one or at least have somebody at the apple support take a look at it.

that's likely spotlight doing his job, not all files are indexed properly for many reasons. nothing to worry about I guess.

2 days in with a brand new 13" Haswell MBP.

No issues at all, yet. Nothing in the log, yet. Working perfectly in every respect.

Huge sympathy for anyone with issues though.

    Screen 13"

Processor  2.8 GHz Intel Core i7

    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    Graphics  Intel Iris 1024 MB

    Software  OS X 10.9 (13A2093)

    Storage 500 GB

This laptop is the best I've ever owned in 20 years as an I.T. professional.

It has to be worth some patience for an Apple fix ? If the alternative is Windows, you can forget it !

I am going to add myself to this list. The day I received my 13" 250 SD, 8G macbook it freezes about 3 hours after setting it up. It has frozen two more times. Only way to get it back was a hard reset from the power button. I am not sure if I should take it back for a new one. My mouse cursor does not disappear. The only key that works is the power. Holding it down for a sec pops up a dialog saying something like am i sure I want to shut it down. I can not navigate the dialog with tab or any other keys. I have to hold down power till it shuts down.

I started this thread on tweakers.net, already Saturday morning when there were only 4 hits when I Googled the entry from system.log. I also posted in the main Macbook Pro thread, because I though that would be read by much more people. There were quite a few reactions of people who are affected by this issue, while there don't seem to be any people with a 13" rMBP who are unaffected after some serious use of their system. I strongly doubt whether there are any unaffected 13" system, I think there are people who have not yet encountered a freeze but purely by coincidene.

I also have the color load wheel very frequently (even just changing windows on Safari...).
And I noticed that I sometimes have Delays between typing on the keyboard and the letters actually showing on the screen (Safari, Mail, Facebook, Pages...)
    Anyone else has this too?

I have same problem with MacBookPro Retina 15" Early 2013 which is not Hashwell. It froze twice so far. It seems issues came up after upgrade to Mavericks. I have system for about six months and I never experienced so severe issue up until now. I filled issue to Apple using feedback page.

It seems like some kind of USB problem. In reality internal keyboard, track pad and even Bluetooth devices are USB connected internally. It seems that USB bus goes off for some reason. I have no clue about that because it logs nothing so it is up to Apple to track it down but it can be complicated I do not know what triggers this behavior it happened to me once in Safari and once in AppStore but I do not think so it is related to currently used application.

Add me to the list as well X3.

I bought 3 of the newest macbook pro retina with 8GB Ram and 256 GB SSD this past weekend and so far all three have experienced this issue with trackpad and keyboard not working suddenly.

On my own macbook pro, it has happened only once so far while the other two have shown this issue more than once.

Hopefully apple figures out what the issue is and provides a fix as soon as they can.

Other than that, I freaking love this thing and am glad I switched over from windows.

Same issue here, trackpad/keyboard locks up. I either have to hold the power button down and re-boot or close the laptop for 5 mins then it seems to be fine.

Seen the issue 5 times in 3 days of using the laptop.

Apple care UK say they havent heard of the issue and recomend returning the laptop. I dont see the point in swapping it out, the laptop I swap it out with will probably have the same problem!
