Al,
Want to try your script, but I get this error:
About all I know about Applescript is how to press the Run button, so this may be a simple thing for an expert to fix.

I have version 2.6 of AppleSript Editor and OSX 10.9 and when I press compile I get this:
I did try a system restart and was able to open a numbers file with page view from Numbers File, but it reverted to not showing it on subsequent tries. I then tried a restart of only Numbers and that also worked but only the first time. My suspicion is that with OS 10.9 it has two modes, one for iOS and one for OSX, and only the OSX shows page view. But I know for sure it hasn't gone away, it's just hard to find any way to get to it that will work every time on every machine. Hope that helps. - Al

So, maybe the problem was that I failed to Compile before running. I did say that I am not a scripter! Your Script ran, but it launched Numbers '09, not Numbers 3.0.
Maybe that's why you were able to see Print View.

AppleScript will compile and run from hitting the run button, so I don't know why it came up with the Sintax Error. That comes from the compiler.
But you did solve the larger mystery for me. When an Apple Script runs the first time, if it doesn't find a match for the app name, it will ask for directions in a dialog, which it will remember in the future. With the upgrade to OSX 10.9, Numbers does not replace Numbers '09, but is added to the Applications Folder as 'Numbers.app' (3.0) and the Finder default for all Numbers files on my HD have been set to Numbers.app. But AppleScript still goes to the old app. So I was incorrect to assume that there were two modes, it's really the new app and the old one. At this point, I definitely like the old one. I'm just happy it still works.
I went into Finder Info and tried to reset the default app to Numbers '09 (version 2.3) and Finder apparently won't allow it. It reverts back to 3.0.
But, I don't need to run AS every time I want to run Numbers '09. I have it on my dock and once it's open, it becomes the default app as long as Numbers 3.0 is not running. If both are running, the default is still 3.0.

Oct 29, 2013 12:06 PM in response to panacaby Alvaro707,I'm SO disapointed!
I use that feature all the time and that is precisely the advantage over all other programs.
Apple software is not about how pretty it looks but how easy is to work with it.
I'll use the old version instead until they fix this.

Oct 29, 2013 12:35 PM in response to Al Guntherby SGIII,Just saw this script. As far as I can tell Numbers 3.0 doesn't have enough AppleScript support to do something like this.
This will work to tell Numbers 3.0 to open a document:
tell application "Finder"
set myFile to (choose file with prompt "Choose Numbers File")
tell application "Numbers"
activate
open myFile
end tell
end tell
But, alas, it seems AppleScript cannot be used to act on sheets, tables, or cells in Numbers 3.0.
Note that "activate" generally is used to activate an application, not an object within an application. For an object you usually use "tell". So putting "activate" within the "tell table" statements probably would not work even if Numbers 3.0 did have more AppleScript support.

Nov 2, 2013 10:54 AM in response to panacaby Neil Schreck,I am, also, disappointed with the lost of Print View. Real pain to go back and forth to get the forms right.
Apple please reinstate to feature.

Nov 2, 2013 11:11 AM in response to Neil Schreckby SGIII,Hi Neil,
You can give feedback directly to Apple in the Numbers>Provide Numbers Feedback menu.
However, from what I can tell from reading and from checking out the new Numbers, Apple's vision for you (they know you really want this but just know that yet) is that you would much rather view your work and show it to others interactively on Apple devices, or share it for collaboration on the web, than print it out in in static, paged documents with precise margins.

Nov 3, 2013 10:32 PM in response to panacaby spycoops,Here's my workaround for this (pathetic) backward step of eliminating page layout view.
Start by working with Preferences/Rulers/Inches and View/Show Rulers:
Work up all your tables and images &c. into an approximately paginated layout.
Whe you're ready to print draw a Shape the same size as your page: e.g 8.5 x 11, and color it white. Then Arrange/Send it to the Back. Duplicate the "page" box and stack them where your pages would be.
Then layout out your page to fit the boxes.

Nov 6, 2013 2:03 AM in response to panacaby Yellowbox,Hi panaca,
I noticed that there are some gold guid lines that you can pull down vertically or pull left horizontally from the rulers.
Also, Numbers > Preferences > Rulers > Alignment Guides. Turn them on to align objects **with each other** (left, right, middle, top, bottom) as you drag an object.
Regards,
Ian.

Nov 6, 2013 5:40 AM in response to panacaby spycoops,Another thing to note is the Content Scale and Auto Fit settings in the Print Preview Panel (File/Print).
These make it easy to layout the page if it consists of one long spreadsheet. A little trickier if the page has many tables.

I suppose that is what Apple had in mind, but it's a useless method if you wish to maintain a certain font size or object size in the document.

I'm not an attorney, but I'm suspicious of the language: "Improvements to zoom and window placement". It doesn't say "Edit in Print View Mode". My suspicions are raised.

I share your suspicion. At the same time, it was encouraging to see an explanation/acknowledgement of the shortcomings and a pledge for future development. iWork '09 was disconnected from a regular cycle of improvements and updates, especially when compared to MS Office. The cross platform compatability that is at the heart of the new iWork could give these programs a chance to catch up with and ideally surpass their past feature set.
Hoping for the best...
Zab
