How to play OGG audio on iTunes in Maverick?

32 bit mode no longer is valid according to this and the quicktime plugins don't seem to work in 64bit mode. What do we who have many audio files in OGG do? I don't care for MP3 if I don't have to.

I have the same problem. According to the thread at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1656852 , the 32-bit code for Quicktime was dropped as of OS X 10.9, and since iTunes depends on Quicktime for playing media files, iTunes can no longer be launched in 32-bit mode. Mac's first 64-bit operating system, OS X 10.6, was released in 2009. The people who maintain the ogg format, the Xiph foundation, haven't updated their Mac ogg plugin, XiphQT, since earlier that year, which means that it was never designed to support 64-bit applications. The 32-bit mode circumvented this for a time, but Mavericks ruined that.

The only way to get ogg to work on OS X 10.9 would be to download the XiphQT source code from the website and try your hand at coding up and compiling a 64-bit version.

Apple never replaced the depricated 32bit QT C api with a 64bit api. An extention like XiphQT isn't possible anymore in Mavericks. iTunes will probably never play Ogg Vorbis again unless Apple adds the support themselves. I started using Clementine instead of iTunes, which also sync's with my android phone

But ogg is a much better audio format. So I'd like to stick with it. Unfortunately, with the new OS, it's not possible. I hope either Xiph or iTunes will soon release an update.

iTunes has never given the slightest indication that it intends to ever support OGG (or FLAC), so there is really no point waiting for that. As for Xiph support, it has not been anything to rely upon.

Use a conversion program to create AAC or MP3 versions for iTunes. Do not discard your OGG files, but rather keep them on hand for times when you are using a more capable player.
