mavericks finder

Sorry no solution, but a similar issue with arrange. I like to have my files in icon view because I deal with a ton of image files. I used to be able to sort by Date Modified so I good quickly see the last image I had owrked on. Now with Maverick it seems to arrange by that day and within that day it sorts by name. Never had this problem before and have tried different settings to no luck. Also its interesting to note it works the way I would like in list view and cover view, but not in icon or columns. Shouldn't it be the same in all views no matter how i choose to arrange items?

This is a real pain in my work flow and would love to see a fix/solution.

Same here. It's getting really really annoying now.

I did find that by holding down the option while clicking on Arrange gets you a new secondary sort function that was causing most of my problems. However there is no visual feedback or clue that this function exists. I had to find it by chance. Also its one more step I have to do to get the same function I once had with one click. Don't get me started on labels.

Yes I've had that delayed effect happen a lot too. Just a pain for something that should be so simple and had been for years.

I am having the same problem, even after deleting all the .DS_Store files in my home folder (find ~ -name .DS_Store -exec rm -rf {} \;).

For me it's the contrary tough, when I open a new finder windows it is initially correctly sorted but then after a second it gets all scrambled.

Is there a bug report somewhere about this bug?

You can see both with ⌘J

I know about that, I had it on Arrange By Kind and Sort By Name everywhere but it would always start scrambling folders after some time.

I am now trying to have both on Arrange By Kind and Sort By Kind and so far so good, but I would prefer to sort by name...

Thanks for the tip with Command J though again how would I ever now that existed if I didn't waste a lot of time trying to fix the issues I was having. Frustrating and frankly I wish I had easier/better options with intuative visual clues that I have come to expect from my Apple OS.

I'm also noticing that folders don't always update right away after I add additional files. I often have to go in and out of a folder to see the new files. This could be an issue with my older machine, but is worth noting I didn't have this issue previously with Mountain Lion.

Yeah, it's hidden. What's worse is when Apple moves things (i.e. in Mavericks, they moved the Versions Revert To.., and Delete Old Verions)

I got the exact some problem and it isn't related to the 'arrange by' and 'sort by' option. I hadn't had this problem before I updated to Mavericks. If the documents in a folder is not sorted alphabetically and I select another folder in column view and select the previous folder again, it suddenly is sorted alphabetically. I hope Apple comes with a fix soon.

Same problem; want to sort finder alphabetically but get it in something "close" to order used. Sure hope Apple is listening and we get a fix. Very time consuming to find a file! :-(

Well, command+J isn't terribly hidden as it appears on the Finder > View menu as Show View Options. 😉

I have my Finder view set to Arrange By Name and Sort by Name. I also use the icon view style as opposed to list view. Works fine for my needs.
