Mail rules in OS Mavericks 10.9 don't apply to Sent Messages

hello

does anyone have Mail working correctly with applying Mail Rules to Sent Messages?

i have Rules set up to put new Mail into various folders. This works as expected for incoming messages.

in previous OSX versions your Rules could be applied to Sent messages as well.

but in Mavericks it doesnt work (for me).

i have tried making new rules (not relying on previously set up rules), and still no go.

anyone?

thanks

I'm using OS X's native mail client, Mail. I'm now on Mavericks but the rules that had been working for over a year suddenly stopped working on sent items on the 15th of October 2013 before I upgraded, when I was still running Mountain Lion, so it's not Mavericks' fault.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to suggest any ideas they might have.

Not only Rules!

I have the same problem with (old and new incoming and outcoming) rules not working in Mail after Mavericks update.

I might add that "move message"- rule does not work at all.

"Copy message" rule sometimes still works.

I noticed an additional issue: mouse scrolling within Mail (and indeed other apps) stops working suddendly.

It is necessary to quit and reopen the application in order to start working again.

My experience is that 'Move to Mailbox' in Rules is actually copying to the specified mailbox, rather than moving. This is pretty annoying. How did Apple miss this one? Did no-one come up with this bug in beta-testing? Considering how seamless the installation / updating procedure has become for new versions of OSX, I'm amazed.

In my case the problem appears to be the same for existing rules and for new rules. My workaround for the moment is also to change all "Move" rules to "Copy" and then "Delete" the original message in a second step.

Good for you, CSound. Great that it works on your 4 Macs.

It worked for many years on my 2 Macs, happily filtering my emails into folders. It doesn't work any longer.

If there's a configuration issue or software conflict causing the same problem on a number of user's computers, then I think the suggestion that it was overlooked in testing is fair enough.

Then we will disagree, I think that your choice to blame Apple will make it harder for you to find out what is wrong with your system. But each to his own I guess.

Look, it's Maverickis. It's not the ISP or the Imac or whatever.

Rules is broken. Also Reader used to have email link down below, that's gone. Emails can not be sent to specified mailbox in rules. We can't click on Contact address person and email appears with that name at To. There are workarounds. Mine is I have manually put in address and then send and leave in Sent mailbox. Next time use Send Again, delete subject line and content and put in new subject and content and send.

It's Mavericks. If I could revert back I would. I used Eudora for over a decade. Great. Then Maill was good. Now I'm tempted to use Thunderbird but don't want the hassle of reentering everything.

Rules and other Mail aspects don't work anymore and that is across the board in all platforms after reading these forum complaints.

So....we just live with the Post Jobs obsessive get it right era. The emphasis is all on IOS which is very very dumb, confusing, and redundant.

Times change and we move on...

No, it's not a Gmail account. It's a regular mail account accessed via POP3.

It seems that copy/move confusion applies only to new rules and my workaround at the moment is to change 'move' to 'copy/delete'.

Well, after awhile, the problems looks more complicated. 'Apply rules' doesn't work any longer run explicetely on messages, it seems like rules are applied only at the moment of the arrival of new messages.

This may be something related to the index. Not sure though.

You could try the various index cleaning steps,

Rebuild Mailbox

- Mailbox menu

Vacuum Envelope Index

http://brettterpstra.com/2012/09/15/vacuuming-your-mail-app-index-still-works-wo nders/

Remove Envelope Index

Quit Mail and remove Envelope Index from your user/Library/Mail/V2/MailData folder.

No matter what you do, Rules will not automatically run on anything but incoming email. It has never worked automatically on anything but incoming email. You should be able to manually run rules on the Sent Mail.
