Mail rules in OS Mavericks 10.9 don't apply to Sent Messages

hello

does anyone have Mail working correctly with applying Mail Rules to Sent Messages?

i have Rules set up to put new Mail into various folders. This works as expected for incoming messages.

in previous OSX versions your Rules could be applied to Sent messages as well.

but in Mavericks it doesnt work (for me).

i have tried making new rules (not relying on previously set up rules), and still no go.

anyone?

thanks

If the accounts are set up as IMAP, this would stand to reason. The nature of POP is that when you go out and get the mail from the server, it is removed from that server and put on your machine. IMAP on the other hand retains a copy until some pre-determined trigger (like keeping it on the server for 30 days).

No, Imap accounts store mail on the server until it is deleted, there is no time limit.

In essence, if the account is IMAP, your'e not necessarily able to "Move" it because the email is still out there on the server if I understand this article correctly...

No, Imap servers are synchronized with their clients, this is why actions on one repeat across all, read it on your iPhone and your Mac will also mark it as read. Move it from one folder to another and it will do the same on every client.

POP accounts do not synchronize, you can not create folders on them and all actions are local.

Thanks for the clarification Csound1. Good stuff. I'm not understanding, "POP accounts do not synchronize, you can not create folders on them and all actions are local." I do understand the synchronization issue but not that "you can not create folders on them". I understand the "all actions are local".

It seems I've been able to create numerous "folders" (i.e. Mailboxes) by virtue of the fact they are POP accounts and that the info is stored locally where we wouldn't necessarily be able to create a Mailbox in an IMAP environment and necessarily have that go to all he other devices you might access the server from. It would seem to me the folders would have to be created at the server level in an IMAP environment... Is this not the case?

The folders are on your Mac, not on the POP server.

No, Imap folders can be created by any Imap account client (ie: Mail on a Mac or an iPhone), they will then be synchronized to the server and from there to the other clients.

An Imap account is one account viewed or accessed from multiple locations. No matter how many devices you have there is only one account, and they all see the same thing.

Yes, Cox account is working.

Not 2 Gmail folders...I want a message that comes into one of the Cox email accounts (or icloud account, whatever) moved to a folder which I have named "To Read" in a Gmail account I like to use. What happens is that the message gets moved to the Gmail folder, but also stays in the Inbox on the Cox account in this case. Only seems to keep a copy in the original Inbox when I'm moving to a Gmail folder. Mail doesn't keep a copy in the original Inbox when moving to folder in an account other than Gmail.
