Q: Mail rules in OS Mavericks 10.9 don't apply to Sent Messages

hello

does anyone have Mail working correctly with applying Mail Rules to Sent Messages?

i have Rules set up to put new Mail into various folders. This works as expected for incoming messages.

in previous OSX versions your Rules could be applied to Sent messages as well.

but in Mavericks it doesnt work (for me).

i have tried making new rules (not relying on previously set up rules), and still no go.

anyone?

thanks

I'm having the same problem.  My rule is simple mark all messages in the mailbox as read.  Deleted the rule and rewrote it as well as rebuilt all the mailboxes.  Nothing worked.  This account is Gmail.

    Similar issues.

Old rules for the most part work (some do, some don't)

New rules don't work at all.

    C'mon Apple...fix it!  : )

That is not correct, previous versions of OS X did not support Outgoing mail rules, and neither does Mavericks.

Rules works for me in sent, in, from and other options that Rules gives me to send messages to assigned mailboxes. Does not work with Mavericks along with several other valuable Rules.

New Mail updated did nothing to fix those many bugs.

Please post the settings used for your rules for Sent messages

I can not put image here of screen shot and Apple will not let me cut and paste my 214 rules.. but here is how to do it.

When clicking on a rule you've made and click on edit, one of the choices of many is to send mail to a mailbox if a certain condition is met, one condition is "From' if you put your email address in there the email will be sent to the mailbox you specify and using a keyboard command it goes there.

I have had twenty sent messages to different people at one time, hit my keyboard command and off they go to the specified mailboxes.

Not any more. Mail is broken and it's not Gmail, it's Mavericks.

Shift Command 4 allows you to take the screenshot. The little camera on the editor toolbar allows you to insert it here.

I have Rules for all mail I send. Previous OS versions allowed me to go to my Sent folder and select all the mail in there and then click Apply Rules. It then moved them into the folders I require. Mavericks does not do that. I have to select the mail in Sent and then go to Move to for each one. Apply Rules will not work.

I've sent Feedback to Apple on a regular basis asking them to fix it.

(Frankly I don't know why I should even have to go to Sent to select the mail to have it filtered. Other mail programs have allowed filtering of Sent mail for some years.)

My mail rules contain a From rule for each recipient that works fine. Under that I have a To rule for each one, see below.

    To   contains   (recipient's email address)

    At the bottom

    Perform the following actions:

Move message to mailbox.....(mailbox folder I require)

Previous Mail dumped all my outgoing mail in Sent but I was able to go there and select the lot and click Apply Rules and it filtered all my outgoing mail according to the rules shown above. Mavericks does not do that. I have to click each one and manually go to Move to.

Have you tried recreating one of the rules and see if it will work.

I have seen in the past where the old rules just refused to work. I'm not sure if there is a way to just hit a "reset" button on them.

I'm not going to go in and do any repeat manual rules thing which probably won't work anyway.

Mail is broken and rebuilding and all those other workarounds don't work.

I've been having issues too. To add to what others have offered, when you go to create a new rule, and are asked whether or not you want to apply the rule, it doesn't do it. This is apart and separate from the Sent Mail issue point out above. This is new rule, on inbound mail, and trying to apply it after the mail is already in the inbox. It doesn't work as it should.

I created a rule that moves messages from my Sent basically how you have it set up and it moved the messages as designed.

I set it to From me AND to a particular address as I didn't want to move all of my sent messages to someplace else.

I also tested this and did not have a problem. It applied the new rules when I clicked on the Apply button presented after saving the rule.

Same issues here. I have custom rules to move all the jobs/leads/Rolex/Vi@gra/husband-hunting Russian tarts, etc., etc., etc. crap to Junk and mark it as read. They worked perfectly on my Mac Pro as far back as Snow Leopard - which is when I created them. No problems at all. However, once I upgraded to Mavericks they stopped working altogether - even with the Mail update.

I've recreated the rules, created basic best rules, sent myself test emails that should have triggered the rules, deleted caches, repaired disk permissions, reapplied the Mail update (if there was a combo updater I would have tried that too). So, what next? What's the magic fix?

This is clearly a fairly common bug so I'd suggest people file a bug report here:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html (there doesn't appear to be Mail-specific feedback)
