Calendar offers only 1 alert now?

Up till now I have made heavy use of multiple alerts/alarms for events in Calendar. After updating to Mavericks, I see only 1 alert offered per event. If this is baked in, Apple has done us a disservice. Why eliminate a useful feature like multiple alerts?
