Question

New Garageband in Mavericks not installing essential content

After installing Mavericks, all iLife apps self updated except GB so I downloaded it myself only to find that upon installation of the upgrade iMac fails at the final hurdle - 20 minutes to get the essential sounds needed to open but not able to install them due to a repetitive fault. Internet connection is 100% fine although error message says not. Have tried uninstalling completely, safe booting to install, safe booting to download, all - possible combinations to no avail. Mac is about to go for a short flight out the window unless anybody can help.

Apple? An undate that fixes this (I'm not the only person it seems after reading other posts)

Other users? Anyone had the same migraine inducing weekend destroying problem?

There appear to be many people haveing differen problems with the new GB. It crashes on older iMacs and on my mid 2011 iMac I see the same thing as you, the content downloads and then fails in install. I've tried it abot 6 times so far.

The worst thing is there is nearly ZERO information content in the error message.

This morning tried again to install content and to my amazement it worked - I changed nothing since last night, didn't reboot, no safe mode. Happier but slightly confused. Good luck with yours.

Having the same issue both with GarageBand and Logic Pro X. I'm assuming it's downloading the same "essential content". I've been patient, giving it over two days and it's stuck on "install". This is on a 2010 iMac running Mavericks. It installed fine on 2012 rMBP. Help please.

Unbelievable. After the original Garageband problem solving itself, the same problem occurs in Logic Pro X also like you Bill. I'm prompted every time I open the app to resume downloading the content which I'm pretty sure is already on the computer. Uninstall, reinstall, praying - none seem to work.

So just an update, might help the next person. My issue is resolved. I booted into safe mode (hold [shift] when booting) then installed the applications and it worked flawlessly. I'll never know what was causing it, i think it was a permissions issue. Good luck folks.

Same problem as everyone else. Using Late 2011 13in Macbook Pro. Tried everything I can think of. Havent been able to download it for several days.

Got it to work. It is a permission problem, I think. I had to log in using my Admin account. (My normal account, of cource does not have admin priveleges.)

This would explain why re-booting to safe mode also works

I tried logging in under the Safe boot mode. Still failed. I got the same error as before. Not sure what gives.

I'm having this issue as well. Completes the progress bar on the Basic Content Download window then vanishes and nothing. Open it again and it starts the download AGAIN.

Try, if disabling the energy saver in the system preferences will help. My download finally succeded, after I prevented the mac from falling asleep while downloading.

I repaired Permissions and then re-booted in Safe Mode (hold shift key after boot bong) and it finally installed!

Geeez. MUST be a permissions issue.

I can confirm, that repairing permissions with Disk Utility fixes the issue.
