I have a dual monitor setup on a Mac Pro running Mavericks. Since updating my dock will randomly switch between my primariy monitor and my secondary monitor. Has anyone else experienced this? And if sp. is this a settings issue or something amiss in Mavericks? Thanks.

According to Apple's info, this is a feature. With Maverics, there is no longer a primary and secondary screen. The dock will appear on whichever screen you are active on.

Ok thanks. Kinda weird because it switches at random times even if I'm not active on the second monitor. Kind of annoying to lol. Not like it's a huge deal but something that I hope is bugged and gets fixed or an option they provide us a way of not utilizing in the future.
I agree, this is hugely annoying. If this were a feature, there should be a checkbox to turn it on or off. In my book this is a bug. I need my dock on my main screen, and it needs to stay there. If I wanted the dock on either screen, I'd have a dock for each screen. This is just annoying.
Another thread mentioned this as a solution:
System Preferences > Mission Control > then UNCHECK "Displays have separate spaces."
I'm giving that a go now. Seems to work so far.
It moves when you mouse all the way to the bottom of the screen it's NOT on. I just realised this is a "feature" lol. I like it! And, now I know how to lock it there! ty, Miggl!
Solved my problem because I can now move it where I want it. But doesnt explain why when I boot, it is on both screens, then disappears from the external thunderbolt firewire display.

I have a similar problem but the posted solutions do not solve my problem. I mainly use the "secondary" external monitor with my Macbook Pro when I'm working at home. Occasionally the dock simply decides the notebook screen should be the main screen. Being "active" on that screen is not the problem as far as I can tell. (I have another monitor issue that I will post as a new thread.)
This is annoying because one of the main reasons I upgraded to Mavericks is that it was supposed to solve issues with multiple monitors. Apparently not. Thanks for any advice.

Not sure if anyone figured this one out but you can move the dock from the Display Preferences.
In my example the dock is in the center screen, represented by the white bar at the top. To change it to a different screen, click and drag the white bar to another screen! So if I want to change the bar from center screen to the right screen, the final product would look like the second pic.

This not a feature. Its a bug. Mine just jumps randomly no matter what screen Im on.
I agree with bettybopper. It needs to be fixed. It is a BUG if it BUGS you!

Miggl I love you. This "feature" has been annoying the living you know what out of me. Really appreciate the tip.
I've actually since gone back to the default settings and am using the dock in either screen as needed by moving the mouse cursor to the bottom center of the screen I want the dock at. I've gotten used to it now and can see the benefit at times.
that white bar represents the menu bar and not the dock. They can each be on different screens, the dock is NOT shown in display preferences.
