I've had the same problem with my Epson Perfection v300. I just downloaded VueScan from their website, but I've just now discovered that you have to buy the full package ($80) or else it puts a watermark on the image.

The information I got yesterday from the helpdesk of Epson in the Netherlands is that the renewed scanner-driver for the SX610 FW all-in-one and IOS 10.9 Maverick will only be released next year, probably in February or March. It realy is a shame that we have to wait for this update for 4 to 5 months. I suggest we bombard EPSON with our complains. In the meantime I can not continue with the creation of my archive from Acrobat. The procedure to revert to OS 10 Mountain Lion is a lot of work and critical.
Is there any other solution than Image capture??

Epson All-In-One and Scanner products released after 2009
EXPLANATION:
When using Epson Scan version 3.7 or later on Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) the program will crash and potentially display the message below.
SOLUTION:
You will need to update your driver, using the Apple Software Update tool. To do this, click theicon and then click Software Update. Install any updates available for your Epson product. In the event that an update is not available via this software then please use Apple’s Image Capture software. For information on how to use Image Capture, click here.
Note:
For a complete overview of scanning using Image Capture please see the dedicated Apple Support article found here.
