Q: iphone4s with ios7 being used in 2013 Honda Civic with txt messaging

Hello,

I just recently purchased a 2013 Honda Civic EX. The iphone syncs with no problom.I am able to use all of the functions excepts text messaging. The navigation system does have text messaging as an option. When I attempt to use the phone for texting I am prompt with "this phone does not support text messaging"

I really do believe that the phone should work. Did anyone have a similar issue, if so, were you able to resolve this?

Would love to hear about it.

Thanks

Kevin

Honda should be able to answer why their system reports that the iPhone is not supported. The support document regarding Bluetooth profiles supported by the iPhone http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647 does mention MAP, or Message Access Profile, however not all vehicles support all profiles. I would contact Apple about the error that you received and what they can say about iPhone compatability.

Great. Just out of curiosity, and in case anyone else with that model of vehicle comes here searching, what was the outcome of your discussion with Honda? Just a few details would be nice if someone else had to make contact with them. Thanks.

Yes, be glad to share this with you and others. When syncing the iphone 4s with the ios7 update this was the following procedure I followed as per salesmans directions

Topic: Syncing iphone to 2013 Honda Civic EX with navigation.

    a) turned on the navigation system

    b) turned on the phone and enabled the bluetooth

    c) the system prompts you to select your phone that shows up on the screen that you would like to sync

    d) select the wireless server that comes up on the phone that connects to the navigation

    e) The phone is now operational

When trying to view texts the following message appears " phone is no compatible for this function"

What I was not informed of was the following, in order to activate the texting application

While on the blue tooth screen in the phone it will identify the server that the phone is connected to.

Here is what was needed : next to the server name on the phone is the letter i in a circle, push that.

In the next screen, the following buttons need to be on

SHOW NOTIFICATION AND SYNC CONTACTS / once these are on you are good to go.

Now turn off the car and your phone and turn off and back on your bluetooth. From there, follow the above information and the prompts on the screen.

This was the " small little detail" haaa that was left out of the salesmans demonstration.

If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to share what I know.

I had a 2013 Honda Accord and the text receiving function worked fine. I just bought a 2014 Civic and I can not get it to work. I turned on the notifications in the bluetooth. The phone is paired and I followed all instructions in this forum. Please help.

Then check with Honda to see if their system supports the iPhone.
