Jan 4, 2014 4:51 PM in response to derKlecksby tom burns1,Ok, so after all the tech support (on and off all day) i came to th same conclusion as this forum majority.
I installed Mavericks and them garageband onto an external hd, and it WORKS PERFECTLY.
so the FUSION DRIVE must be the problem.
Even though this is a bandaid, that will allowme to actually record sone audio, it still ***** because who knows when the real fix to the fusion drive problem will happen...
They know though.. At least several upper level techs know about this and are hopefully reporting it.
This guy i talked to (brandon in austin) was really cool and tried to help as much as he could, even though i already knew you guys here had the problem figured.
Fingers crossed they get a "real" fix soon. A MILLION THANKS TO THIS FORUM POST AND COMMENTS.

Jan 5, 2014 2:15 AM in response to derKlecksby kogan,I had same issue with fusion drive and solution was just splitting up ssd and hdd. I installed all apps and os to ssd and keep my samples and other stuff on hdd. All works fine and no distortions, pops, dropouts and etc.
Imac 2013, 1Tb fusion drive + focusrite scarlett 2i4 Usb / Virus ti snow
Tested on Presonus Studio One, Ableton Live.
This way even worth it if you're really know what you want to launch faster all the time. I mean what should be on SSD part. For me: os, daw, photoshop, illustrator. Im waiting for apple fixes.

Jan 5, 2014 5:02 AM in response to derKlecksby Robert Martin 1,I have been reading reports of people trying 10.9.2 developer versions who say it solves e Fusion Drive problem. Possibly the USB problem as well. Keeping my fingers crossed and not doing anything until it's released...

Jan 5, 2014 5:06 AM in response to Robert Martin 1by actraiser75,The 10.9.2 Pre-Release from Dec 19 did not solve the problems entirely for me. Are you referring to this one? There is no updated Pre-Release available in the Mac Dev Center at this time.

Jan 5, 2014 5:08 AM in response to actraiser75by Robert Martin 1,I am reading this thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5659615?start=60&tstart=0
Not sure which build 10.9.2 it is. What problems are you still having?
Thanks,
Bob

Jan 5, 2014 5:20 AM in response to Robert Martin 1by actraiser75,with the mentioned Pre-Release of 10.9.2 installed I still encounter high-distortions (like high pitched audio feedback) every other minute which lasts for 2-3 seconds before everything turns back to normal. I don't know whether this is connected to USB or FusionDrive though.
With 10.9.1 it was much worse though with the distortions not stopping unless I switched the audio interface off and on again.
Best

Jan 5, 2014 5:26 AM in response to actraiser75by Robert Martin 1,I see. The post in the other thread has the person using a FW interface through a TB cable. Are you using a class-compliant driver? Which USB device?

Jan 5, 2014 6:53 AM in response to Robert Martin 1by AlexGowers,When is this 10.9.2 out for the public. I'm desperate to get this sorted. While the fusion drive is an issue it really is not the main issue as documented here changing the drive is the fix, apple will address that issue.
I'm far more concerns apple won't fix the usb2/usb3 audio interface issue that is making recording impossible. Crackles like a buffer size error are far more difficult to solve with all audio cards but who knows which actually work correctly! Mine isn't working and my old computer works perfect in comparison yet specs are a bump all round.
I'm going to try and get older usb 2 kext drivers as I've heard they work from a much earlier version of osx in mavericks. But run the USB ports at 2.0 only losing their 3.0 speeds.
X fingers it gets sorted I hate my old laptop.

Jan 5, 2014 7:05 AM in response to Robert Martin 1by actraiser75,Hi Bob - I use a "OSX class compliant" audio-interface as stated on the Allen & Heath website (it's a QU-16 - which is a digital mixer that includes the requirements to work as audio interface via plug and play as well). They are also stating compatibility for OSX 10.9 by the way.
Connecting the Qu-16 directly to the iMac USB3.0 port or using a Hub inbetween does not make a difference by the way. I have not installed any other USB-Drivers.
But as I said it was worse with 10.9.1 and my hope is that the next version of 10.9.2 solves all other edge cases with external audio.

Jan 5, 2014 9:07 AM in response to actraiser75by Leaz,Hi actraiser75 and everybody else!
Great to hear that it finally seems to go in the right direction.
Actraiser75, have you reported your remaining issues to Apple?

Jan 5, 2014 7:52 PM in response to derKlecksby Andru G,I thought I would add my computer to the list to further confirm an issue with my computer too.
iMac 27", i7 3.5, 16GB RAM, 4GB Graphics Card, 3TB Fusion Drive.
I have been experiencing the same problems with my Apollo Quad interface. It will work fine for about 20 seconds before cutting out completely. The only way I can get it to work again is to reboot the interface. I also have a problem where when I try to configure the firewire bandwidth in UAD Console the whole computer shuts down and prompts to restart. It's apparently due to a "Kernal Panic" of some sort. I sent a detailed letter concerning the problem to Universal Audio this afternoon but found this fourm that pretty much answers all of my questions.
I have an oppointment at a local genius bar tomorrow afternoon and I will let them know all about what's going on with these fusion drives.
It seems like for things to work right you can only pick one, SSD or HDD.
If all HDD works, do you guys think that going all SSD will fix the problem too?
Thanks, Andru

Jan 6, 2014 12:09 PM in response to derKlecksby Chris Bedrosian,Adding my brand new Haswell i7 iMac to the list.
3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIAGeForceGTX780M 4GB GDDR5
Using an Apogee Duet 2 USB interface. Starts out fine, sounds like it falls out of sync after 20 minutes or so, with popping and clicks. Only solution is to re-plug the interface, or instead I've been resetting the sample rate in Apogee Maestro.
Contacted Apogee first, who confirmed that there's a problem and they're working with Apple on a fix.
Went to the Genius Bar over the weekend with an appointment, and all they told me, coldly, was I had 3 days to return the machine for a full refund, and refused to acknoweldge any known problems. They sure got REALLY excited though when I suggested exchanging my iMac for a new Mac Pro. Boy did their faces light up!
C'mon Apple, at least let us KNOW you're trying. We're loyal, just work with us.
