Apr 26, 2014 6:06 AM in response to derKlecksby CSU.TV,The bigger problem effecting all external devices is the Operating System: iOS. In its current state, bad audio in any recording situation.
Fix?

Apr 29, 2014 8:31 AM in response to derKlecksby Jay Colin,Wow apple really dropped the ball on the audio part of there update.
Been having major clicks and pops sinds January!!!! I geuss their main focus is on the graphicworld right now as their are no movements what so ever to get this problem cleared.
I have seen my workflow dicrease to almost not want to work on my imac any more. I love apple, truly do but this is really frustrating.
Just to tip you guys out there who plan to by a different soundcard. Dont border. The cracks and pops also emerge when in this case my apogee duet firmwire is not connected.
What helps is to restart your mac everytime the 8bit sound or clicks and pops appear. which for me is around every 30 min. Such a shame that this is happening. I cant just go and buy a PC all my stuff and plug ins i use are Apple oriented. So basically i'm screwed untill Apple desides to finally adress this manner properly and not with bandaid solutions.
Come on guys. Step up to the plate and let us all enjoy the strenght of Apple computers in it's full form. Im in the final stages of mixing my album and this is just throwing me miles away from my deadline! DO SOMETHING!!

May 1, 2014 6:17 PM in response to Jean-Moby Gabotb,My sotution was: i changed mi imac 27 fusion drive for a Macbook Pro i7 15" 1tb Solid State. Then i got a Motu 828 Thunderbolt. End of this problem...

May 9, 2014 1:58 PM in response to Gabotbby tempo63,I have the same setup, except I have the Motu 828 mk2 with firewire to thunderbolt adapter. I still get the crackles in Ableton Live.. Also for some weird reason, at a very basic project, with not many plugins in use, my cpu monitor is just as hight as my previous ****** 13 inch i5 macbook pro. I guess that also has some to do from the ableton side, but still... It's disappointing to buy a workhorse for almost 3000 dollars and you can't enjoy a seamless workflow.. I want my trust back from apple...

May 15, 2014 8:27 PM in response to Simon Edwards1by JimGr,I've had the USB audio problem all along. Fusion Drive, latest iMac fully loaded. I've upgraded the latest Logic a couple days ago and now the new system. So far as I can tell, for the first time I bought the machine, audio through USB works without issue and it never did before. I recorded 3 minutes and it was pristine. When monitoring the recording while playing there was a long delay between playing and hearing, but I don't care about that because I can monitor the actual sound separately. Try this one out, at least for me it works for the first time.
Audio equipment tested:Korg Kronos keyboard transmitting audio directly from the keyboard's USB out to the iMac's USB in. Lots of other things open at the same time. Perfect recording. Everyone with issues should try this again and see if it is magically fixed. This is the first time in the life of my machine that recording without clipping kinds of noise has been possible.

May 16, 2014 6:39 AM in response to Vadalinoby Token Boomer,Well I'm glad for those who saw improvement with 10.9.3. It did nada on my system. So either Apogee is behind the eight ball on this one or Apple just doesn't support the brand it championed for all these years. I'll be looking for another interface.

May 16, 2014 9:05 AM in response to CSU.TVby larsomat,I've had crackling problems on my MB Pro 15" retina with a Focusrite VRM-Box, forever. Nothing helped, no driver updates or OS updates.
Been on the 10.9.3 beta for about two weeks. No problems since then. I'm downloading the full release right now, but I'm pretty optimistic that my problem has been solved. Finally!

May 16, 2014 10:36 AM in response to larsomatby RayNL,As of today I am on Mavericks 10.9.3 ITunes 11.2 iMac late 2013 27" with 3TB Fusion Logic Pro X 10.0.7 Motu Ultralite mk3 1.6 build 60625 Neumann KH120a monitors.
I still get the occasional odd distortion/ hiccup even when just playing an Apple AAC ripped CD in iTunes via USB.
Via Firewire it seems a bit more stable than it was (not hard), but not perfect. Sometimes there seems to be an odd 'warble' like listening to an old tape capstan with a flat spot, and the play head on Logic Pro X seems more jerky that it used to be. Under iTunes I get the odd glitch, but not always at the same point in a song.
Edit: at least some of my current problems seem to be in iTunes itself, as I can hear the same "digital clipping" over the internal speakers too.
I mean if you can't even play a couple of songs without problems on standard releases of code, what sort of testing are these developers doing? Certainly not any lengthy critical listening on audio interfaces from multiple manufacturers if you ask me.

It sounds to me as if you have the EQ of iTunes activated. The iTunes EQ is very bad, always has been. Your iTunes problem should go away as soon as you deactivate your EQ.

May 16, 2014 2:37 PM in response to larsomatby JimGr,I agree that is something to check. When I discovered the latest OSX fixed my USB recording problems I did get a little clipping on playback in Logic. It turned out I had to pull down the master volume sliders some because even though the recording didn't clip the playback was set too loud and was tickling the red a little too much.
