I just installed the NEW iMovie for Mavericks on my iMac. So far I get it, but for some reason I can't change the color, size or font of ANY title in my movie.. I see where you can do all that, but it's doesn't highlight so I can use that function ..
That link you showed is for iMovie 11.. The new iMovie for MavericksJUSt came out and is all new and that's the one I'm having the issue with.. The old iMovie 11 worked just fine.. Not sure if I like the NEW iMovie or not...

OK Thanks Bill.. That one helped big time.. I see NOW you can't edit all of the Titles .. Only a few... Still not sure if I like this new one or not.. But I will give it a good chance..

I just upgraded iMovie to new one. I had struggle with changing font size. But I found a way to do it.
If you are working on subtitles, Use "Lower" in titles to put subtitles. You can align and change the font size.
Know this! For some titles you cannot just change the font size.
I hope it helps for someone who is struggling with putting subtitles on your clips.

I have the same problem. Apple made an option to see the size of the font and typeface but dropdown options are not available. Would be great if they could fix this bug. Also similar problem you will find with transition speed.
