Mavericks installed, now thunderbolt ethernet doesn't online after waking from sleep

Mid 2012 Retina Macbook Pro, 15 inch - as title suggests, after recently installing Mavericks from the app store + doing an upgrade install, the thunderbolt ethernet adapter no longer comes back online after the laptop wakes from sleep. System Information shows that the device is present and connected, it just won't bring the network interface up, so I have to disconnect + reconnect the adapter to get networking back up.

Wifi works fine, no problems there.

Anyone else encountered a similar issue?

Yes, I too this issue to deal with (in front of a client no less!) after updating to Mavericks.

What worked for me:

System Preferences > Network > with Thunderbolt Ethernet highlighted, click Advanced > IPv6: change to Link-local Only > Hit Renew DHCP Lease > OK > Apply.

Please let me know if this worked for you guys too.

Thanks for this discussion - more infos:

Around same context after 10.9 updating : iMac 27" - Thunderbold Giga Ethernet adaptor - IP set Manually - Same issue after sleeping and waking - no recovering of internet connection and to router.

I test HK solution (IPv6 Local link Only) :

- with IP manually set : no recovering of router and internet connection after waking

- with DHCP using manual address : no recovering of router and internet connection after waking

- with DHCP : Ok, recovering of router and internet connection after waking

Curious issue... but manual address temporay unusable until 10.9.1 next release and when ???

Hi,

Similar problem - 2013 Macbook Air - connected to Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock (which has its own gigabit ethernet adaptor), every time the system sleeps-wakes it loses network connectivity. I have to physically pull the ethernet cable from the wall and replace to get the connection to come back up.

Note that this is despite the network adaptor showing as coonected in System Settings -> Network.

I'm really not sure what to do about this.....should I contact Belkin or Apple....?

Cheers, Jon

I want to say Apple are the best people to contact, given that it's affecting all sorts of thunderbolt connections including purely first-party devices like Apple's own thunderbolt ethernet adapter, although one sniff of the word Belkin and they'll probably suggest you take it up with them.

In addition to earlier, HK's solution did work for me - but only with a purely DHCP connection. Like calitinilo, if I'm using a static IP setup, I still need to either reconnect the controller or swap network locations (either from the GUI or scselect in a terminal window) to get the link back up.

I have seen this on a mac pro 5,1 when connecting via ethernet. Upon booting, I will get an IPv6 address from the router (local link or automatic mode). After a sleep cycle, I lose that address which has the following symptoms.

1) back to my mac stop working from a remote machine to my mac pro

2) wifi sync in iTunes stops working

3) slow finder folder population when folder has hundreds of items (I think this is due to cloud file tags)
