back lighting for keys keeps going on and off

Hi all:

Just received a refurbished 13" mid 2012 macbook pro and immediately upped the ramto 16 Gb and changed to 500 Gb HDD to a 256 Gb SSD. The ram is crucial and the SSD is from OWC. However, prior to replacing the equipment I noticed that the keyboard back lighting would go on and off. I did a SMC reset and that helped for two days but now the problem is back. Any Ideas? I have already made a genius bar appointment but am afraid the problem will not happen when I'm there. Thanks for any assistance.

Try checking this, go to system preferences/keyboard, keyboard tab, Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light, when checked can cause the ket backlighting to fluctuate, as ambient light changes and sometimes as you move your hands past the sensor. You can adjust the key lighting using the F5/F6 keys to a level you are happy with then unchecking Automatic.
