Nov 6, 2013 8:13 AM in response to Alicia22Tby ryan2412,To add to this discussion again.
I subsequently returned my rMBP, 2.4GH, 8GB, 256SSD to the store after 4 days of use, due to it freezing roughly 2-3 times per day. The store were out of stock so I re-order through the online store.
I received my new Macbook, identical specs, last Friday and have been using every day with average usage, installed the same applications as before etc. I have had NO freezes at all since receiving the new machine, it runs the same set up as my previous machine (13A2093).
I know this isn't conclusive in any way, however if you are nearing the end of your 14 day return window I would strongly suggest exchanging for a new machine, as in my case it certainly appears to be hardware related. I know that my new machine shipped directly from Apple in China, so would have been unlikely to have been part of any initial batches.

Dec 9, 2013 6:11 AM in response to ryan2412by Brownian_,I will add myself to this list. 2012 15" Macbook Pro Retina. It has worked fine until I installed Mavericks. Now I have had it freeze completely three times in one week. Screen stays on but nothing except the power button does anything. Closing the lid does nothing.
Worlds most advanced OS - really?

Dec 9, 2013 6:13 AM in response to Brownian_by vladcostras,It's possible that Mavericks isn't as stable as the OS X Lion was, I hope they will release the update sooner, mine is a little bit laggy on scrool (Safari Webpages)

Dec 9, 2013 8:46 AM in response to vladcostrasby Brownian_,Yes, it was supposed to be be a faster better OS but if you press the space bar in Finder to preview a file there is an annoying lag that wasn't present in ML and if you use the Reader function in Safari, there is an annoying lag in it scrolling down a page when you press the space bar. They also got rid of the very useful 3 finger swipe to go forward and back a folder in Finder windows - duh!
Snow Leopard was the best OS Apple have made to date. Everything since has been a downgrade with stupid bells and whistles to kow-tow to the mighty iOS.

Dec 10, 2013 4:36 AM in response to ryan2412by 6strings78,My new Mac Book started freezing up on me a couple of days ago... but i'm past the 14 day return policy. What are my options?

Dec 11, 2013 2:23 PM in response to 6strings78by Ruairiroz,Hi all,
Same issue here, i have had support on the phone a couple of times, no solution as yet, i get the impression they dont know what to do with my/our issue. "wow thats strange, it could be soft or hardware related" - NO FRIKKIN S**T BATMAN!!
They just had me drag the cache contents into the trash and told me to call them back when it happened again.
I do not like the way they act as if it is the first time they have had a support call with the described issue when a quick google search throws up many people with the exact same problem.
As a long time pc user i have NEVER seen anything like this..... and this my first mbp system costing nearly 3000euros, i am absolutely gutted i have taken a bite of this apple!!
"Get a mac...they are solid and just work".... well, i fell for it....i will swing for the next person to utter these words.

Dec 25, 2013 10:20 AM in response to ryan2412by RysoH,I just got my macbook today and its has frozen numerous times. Happens more so when on youtube, itunes and other media apps. Does anyone know if this problem is related to the new software or what? This is my first mac and i must say not impressed so far.

Jan 2, 2014 1:07 PM in response to ryan2412by Mconso,Just got a 13 inch MacBook Pro Retina for christmas, day one I had it freeze. It has frozen about 4 times now all while doing basic tasks. Very frustrating; I am sure it has to do with Mavericks, I have always owned an apple or mac and this is the first to freeze for unseen reasons (I did have freezing issues about 10 years back if doing too much at one time). However, for a brand new OS on what should be one of the bests computers around, I dont understand why my macbook is freezing performing the most basic of tasks. Literally, it just froze ten minutes ago while I was reading HuffPost , with absolutely no other programs running. Stupid. I hope this is just a Mavericks issue, and not a bigger problem with the hardware itself.

Jan 15, 2014 3:52 AM in response to Brownian_by caquon,I'm having this same issue with my 2012 15" mbpr. Seems to be triggered by disconnecting a usb device. Happens very consistently, and I'm forced to hard-restart.

Jan 15, 2014 4:35 AM in response to Brownian_by Brownian_,I had hoped the latest OS update would include a fix for this, but ihas done it again!
This is beyond pathetic. People used to joke about Windows and the blue screen of death. At least Windows knew something was wrong, this problem is so catastrophic the OS doesn't even know it's dead.
It's so dumb that when you restart it doesn't realise anything terrible has happened and doesn't even prompt you to send a report to Apple.
I am using a very expensive, supposdly premium quality machine, with supposedly the "worlds most advanced OS" and the combination is totally unreliable.
I suggest, Apple, that you get your collective heads out of iOS's sphincter and devote some resources to fixing this atrocious issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jan 15, 2014 9:40 AM in response to ryan2412by Richardwalker84,I have the same problem. I was always a PC user but really don't like Windows 8 and had some issues where I lost a lot of data. I decided to splash out and get a beefed up Macbook Pro 13 Retina which I loved and started to get used to Mac OS.
A week into using it, the screen starts freezing and I have to do a reboot by holding down the power key. It becomes more and more frequent and then the screen starts "shaking" with lines all over and occasionally going black. It is not off as the color changes when you hold down the power key to shutdown.
I tried to do a backup to a hard drive and it froze again, this time when I turn it off, it won't go back on.
I bought it in the US but am now in Rio, Brazil which doesn't yet have an Apple store. I head to South Africa next week, hoping Apple in Cape Town can fix or replace quickly for me. Not even a month old, very disappointed.

Jan 15, 2014 2:08 PM in response to ryan2412by Mconso,Since downloading the latest update to mavericks, the issue with the freezing has stopped... It seemed to be listed in the description of the update, a bug fix that stopped the screen from shutting off during certain actions....... Hopefully the problem is gone for good; hope all of yours start working with the latest update....

Jan 16, 2014 1:52 PM in response to Mconsoby caquon,The Mavericks update has in no way solved my problem, in fact, I believe it was this update which began causing it in the first place. As briefly mentioned earlier, my 15" mbpr freezes every time I disconnect my usb hub (I've tried several, and hub has nothing plugged in in need of ejecting) and occasionally when I disconnect my HDMI external display (ASUS 21.5").
I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem in the same circumstances. The freezes only happen when I unplug, not when plugging in. As a work around, I've been turning off my mac before unplugging any device.
Does Apple ever even check these forums? I feel like this would be a quick fix, solved by a simple update...

Jan 17, 2014 4:32 AM in response to ryan2412by ryan2412,I posted in this forum a while back. It's shocking to see that individual's are still having issues with their system freezing up.
Since I had my initial MBPr replaced at the start of November I have had no issues whatsoever, I can't even think of a single freeze.
If you are still having issues that have not been resolved through software updates etc, I would strongly suggest trying to have your device swapped out by Apple, as it suggests a hardware fault not a software or firmware issue.
