Should I get Macbook Air or Pro?

Hello Everyone,

I currently have a mid 2010 Macbook (not pro). I am going to buy a new Macbook but am unsure whether to go with the new pro or air. My budget is max $1,600 so I have narrowed it down to two options and need your help deciding which has the greater performance overall. In other words, which of the two options below offers the greater value assuming both are equally priced? Also, as a secondary question, how noticeable from a scale of 1 to 10 will the performance boost be? (I will mainly be using my computer for very little online gaming, good amount of HD movies, and everyday web surfing)

My current Macbook has the following specs:

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

Software OS X 10.9 (13A603)

Option 1) The newest Macbook PRO 13-inch with the following specs:

Processor 2.6GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz

Memory 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM

Graphics Intel Iris Graphics that come with this line

Storage 256GB PCIe-based flash storage

OR

Option 1) The newest Macbook AIR 13-inch with the following specs:

Processor 1.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz

Memory 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000

Storage 256GB flash storage

Thank You!!!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

If you exempt the gaming, the Air is the better choice hands down. You didnt mention photo or video editing.

Save yourself some cost and get an i5 instead of an i7, get 8gig RAM yes,..... 256gig SSD isnt necessary, keep all big data off the SSD and on a small portable HD. But 256 also reads/writes faster due to SSD density.

Use the leftover money for a nice 2TB portable HD, ...nice case,... Superdrive,... and an Airport Extreme for superfast 802ac WIFI

($550 total on all that)

Here is an excellent video comparison between the 11” I5 vs. I7 2013 Macbook Air.
