I had no troubles installing and using maverick for the past 2 days until tonight this began to happen ...
my iMac will continuously be on start up with a disorientated background then it will loop and restart itself over and over!!!
anyone else with this issue? help!?

I experienced the same thing.
My iMac now is in infinity loop boot.
Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and the disk. Then reboot.

im having the same looping problem....i inserted the snow leopard disk and it did nothing and now i cant get it out. I also tried command + R at the boot and still nothing. is it a goner? I have a back up but havnt backed up in a few months. Ugh im so upset. I love this computer :/
Try holding down the option/alt key during a restart to see if you can select the Recovery Volume there.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that sadly did not work either 😟 Nothing popped up except the dark grey apple and the loading line underneath (and the screen has 5 lime green vertical stripes running down it). When the loading line gets about 1/4 full the screen turns all grey and then about 1 minute or so later it reboots itself again.
