Newbie To Servers

Hi all,

I appologise in advance for the dumbness of this question...I am running DevonThink Pro Office and FileMaker Advanced. I need to be able to access them simultaneously on different computers (one which will have the server app and my macbook air and ipad mini) I tried setting it up via their own built in servers but this failed miserably for some reason.

By running the server app on my wifes desktop, can I do what I require (and i believe more to hosting our own website).
