iPhone backups always big?

My iPod Touch 5th generation backups are always at least 200MB. This is taking up space on my Mac. I found the things being backed up using Time Tracker were in Application Support>Mobile Sync and found at least 200 files of random numbers and letters of which about 40 were photos i had taken since last backup but the others were taking up 150MB of space and werent photos. What do i do because it still takes up space every time i back up and its not like i can just delete old backups because the mobile sync folder changes every time i back up.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
