Q: Camera not working after updating to Mavericks

Use Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090

(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

To find out what you need to fix, you may need to test more than one Apple app in more than  one user account.

All works for me, but you may need to update to the latest Skype (Skype_6.9.0.517).

This generic fix for the camera/Mavericks problem doesn't work.  This is also all that Applecare could come up with, and it still doesn't work.  The built-in camera on my 2011 iMac "disappeared" from the profile with the Mavericks install, and it hasn't come back.  I was lucky enough to get the escalation from tech to supervisor to expert (or whatever they called it) on my last Applecare call, but unfortunately no fix and they claimed to have never heard of this issue.  I guess I'll just keep calling, or waiting for a helpful 10.9.x update.

same problem here and no help at the apple store. it's clearly a mavericks issue and no one is listening.

I have the previous version of yours, it sounds intended all of a sudden. It only affects older versions of their products.

Same issue - MacBook Air mid-2011 - FaceTime, Photobooth, Skype.

No camera any ore in the System Information.

According to Skype Support, Mavericks doesn't support Skype.

I did an SMC reset on my iMac and it fixed the problem. Photobooth and QT movie record both work. Haven't tried Skype yet.
