Is it possible for me to track my iPhone despite it having shut down? Perhaps its last known coordinates?

I checked Apple support and the Find my iPhone app. Neither have been helpful. I have a copy of the serial number but I don't know what use that would be. I'm thinking maybe there is a way the phone's gps recorded its last known coordinates. The location services are always on... aren't they? I appreciate any and all help, thanks.
