how do I copy a photo in iphoto

The UX on iPhoto is simply attrocious. If I import an image - why can I simply not copy it to the clipboard? If I right click on an image the copy item is disabled. Why? This makes no sense and simply frustrates the **** out of me as a user.

The only way I have found to copy the image to the clipboard is to Share the image by emailing it to myself and then downloading the image to my hard drive. Which relies on an internet connection of course. Do you really force the user to do this?

Can this issue please be rectified as it is really truly pants.

What do you want to do? Copy the photo to the paste board to paste it somewhere else, or do you waant to create a duplicate version of the photo?

• To create a copy of the photo, select it in its event and use the command "Duplicate ⌘D" from the "Photos" menu.
• To copy it to the photo to the clip board, select it in "Photos" view or "Events" view, or when browsing an album. The "copy" entry will be disabled in special views, when you are in edit mode, or Browsing Faces or Places.

Are you wanting to use that photo outside of the iPhoto library? If so the following User Tip by Terence Devlin is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto): How to Access Files in iPhoto

If you want to copy a photo to the clipboard, select it and use the keyboard shortcut ⌘C.

Then you can paste it to your Desktop or where ever you want it using the keyboard shortcut ⌘V

I have since realised that you cannot copy an image to the clipboard once it is expanded for some reason. However in thumbnail mode the image can be copied.

Again, why are you trying to copy the image to the clipboard? What's your aim?

Hi, I'd like to know if there is any easy way to do this as well. I have a photo in iPhoto, and I'd like to have a cropped version and still also have the full size in iPhoto together at the same time. I realize I can export the photo, edit it, then import it back into iPhoto, but if there is a way to simply enabled the "Paste" feature, that would be very convenient!

EDIT: I see now that this question was previously answered. "Duplicate" is what I want!

Nothing to do with this thread - you want to duplicate the photos - select it in iPhoto and press command and D

Hmm. It appears to completely ignore me when I select "copy" or use command+C. Paste remains greyed out, I cannot paste it into the application I'm working in, I cannot paste it elsewere in iPhoto. I cannot paste it sam-I-am.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
