Q: Mavericks Hardware/Software compatibility Info

Updates as and when I can...

Old news first... (Well its actually new news but it happens so often whenever there are OS X updates it feels like old news!)

The "usual suspects" are having issues with the new OS X upgrade to 10.9

Mackie and Avid/M-Audio... are both recommending users NOT to upgrade to 10.9/Mavericks as their drivers are "having some issues at this time." Users are reporting various degrees of success/issues so upgrade at your own risk...

Avid have also announced "Avid currently states that Media Composer 7, Pro Tools 11, and Sibelius 7 are NOT supported with Mavericks. They will announce support for the new OS with future releases."

Novation, while claiming compatibility... appear to be ingoring the cries for help from some of their users.... Hopefully this will be rectified soon...........

...and now, back to the real new news.....

Tascam issues abound... Their press release reads as follows;

"TASCAM has announced that their USB drivers have issues with the release of Mavericks. This will affect all current US- series interfaces. TASCAM is hard at work on updating their drivers and will have them ready as soon as possible."

Steinberg's CoreAudio2ASIO driver is having major issues with 10.9 and Steinberg are recommending NOT to upgrade to Mavericks if you use any of their products at this time...

Ableton Live Users need to update to the latest beta versions of 8.4.2 and 9.1 for the best compatibility with 10.9 (Though a few users are reporting issues even with the latest beta..)

Apogee Symphony I/O owners are being told NOT to update to Mavericks as there are current "some significant issues' with their drivers.. New drivers may be released in November... Other Apogee products have updated drivers available from their website

Motu are reporting no problems but are continuing to 'deep test' their products... (No issues found here btw..)

Focusrite say their products are 10.9 compatible.. with the exception of the the Saffire 6 USB. They are hoping to release updated drivers for that model later in the year...

Presonus products should be working fine with latest drivers.... No reports of any issues.

FWIW, I had to update my MOTU Ultra3 with the latest drivers (Aug 2013) when I upgraded to Mavs. Only program affected with Logic X. Others worked fine. Upgraded and now LPX and my Ultra are happy campers.  - John

    John

Were you using your Ultra via it's USB port or it's Firewire port? (Assuming you have one of the Mk3 Hybrid versions)

    Cheers..

    Thanks John..

Appreciate the info.. Ill add it to my 'list"

Interestingly enough I didn't need to update the drivers for my Ultralite MK1 + Mk2 as the previous version worked perfectly fine with Mavericks but, I updated them anyhow.,.. and again, no issues.

The Mk 3 I have was already running under the latest drivers.... so I never got a chance to test with the older ones and Mav...

    Cheers..

Just keeping everyone up to date wrt the MOTU crashes I encountered.

MOTU has released an updated driver which I installed on my MAC Pro running

Mavericks.  The machine stayed up when I turned on my 24I/O's and 2408mk3.

When I reboot with the computer with the interfaces on, the machine doesn't

    repeatedly reboot.

I'm still having my issues with the 828mk3:  Up to a couple of minutes of sound iTunes/Logic etc then a couple of "pops" then I high pitched "weee" sound and then nothing.  Motu are purchasing a new iMac with the Haswell CPU as they have said another user is having the smae problems as me and the only difference between their kit in testing and ours is the Haswell Processor running Mavericks.

But admittedly your case sounds rather nasty also!  Hope your resolve comes soon, I haven't been able to use my speakers or interface for what feels an age!!

MOTU has been very fast and supportive so far.

    Just another data point:

Motu 828 Mk 2, Firewire, working fine under Mavericks and Logic X.

    Motu 8Pre same.

    Hey Folks,

I have TASCAM US-1640, and Logic Express 9. I updated to Mavericks and downloaded the latest "b8" driver. I have sound through the device on my MacBook Air, but not my iMac. Running it through USB. Logic seems to be working fine, my system sees the device, etc. Any ideas? FYI, neither LX9 or Garageband have sound through device. Thx. Mike

Well, not having any luck. I have tried removing driver, unplugging device and re-installing driver, re-installing Logic Express, went into Audio Midi Setup. Sliders in the Audio Midi setup are not active, so I'm assuming they are controlled by the device. I'm beginning to wonder if the USB bus is not working correctly...? I've tried unplugging all other USB devices, which is only my Time Machine. Maybe my machine, being a mid 2009 is too old for the new driver? The software seems to work fine, as it will play through the built-in devices. Frustrating... I can't get any response from TASCAM either. There doesn't seem to be much discussion on other forums that I can find.

Running ProTools 11.1.3 with Mac Mavericks 10.9.3 and the actual Pro Tools Software is running fine on my 2.5GHz core i5 iMac (despite Avid now saying it doesn't support it's products on my specific model - mind you they posted this info long after they released PT11 and saying it was supported for Mavericks...ugh.)

The problem is with Avid's MBox (3rd gen) and Mavericks. I'm only getting one channel of audio, so recording and mixing in Mono is good, but if I want stereo, I have to re-route the audio output to the iMac's audio out, thereby using the iMac as the playback engine which is laggy and buggy.

So... I've given up on Avid actually updating the firmware on the MBox3 (last update was 7+ months ago) to get both audio channels working with Mavericks.

Is there any chance that future Mavericks updates will have a fix for these audio issues or is the buck just passed on to the audio interface companies?

Very frustrating to see Avid not care about their own products that are a few years old and super frustrating that Mac updates can cause such chaos when the intention of updates is to IMPROVE things, not complicate them a la Windows in the late 90s.

Looks like a few out there are running successfully.. are you using the latest drivers from February 2014?

    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/download/Mbox-Drivers

Unplug the MBox, reinstall the drivers... shut off the Mac without plugging the MBox in, boot the computer, let it settle and plug in the interface, any change?

Oh, man if you're seeing drivers from Feb '14, I'd love to know where.

That link you included is the correct drivers page, but the last firmware update I'm seeing is Nov '13.

    From the site:

    Mac Releases

    versionrelease dateinfolink
    1.2Nov 12, 2013
    • Mac OS X 10.9, 10.9.1 Mavericks support only
    • Mac OS X 10.9 Requires Pro Tools 11.0.3 or higher
    • Mac OS X 10.9.1 Requires Pro Tools 11.1.2 or higher
    • Tested with Avid-qualified Apple computers (details)
    download

And firmware 1.2 is what I have installed.

It does work correctly in Mac 10.8, so yeah, it's the driver and Mavericks.

So where is this Feb update?

    fingers crossed!

Mike, my mistake, you are correct.. I saw the Last "Updated"  from February but it was just the info they were referring to. There are some that have MB3 working, guess it depends on the machine/hardware.
