Cannot download uncorrupted PDF files from internet. I prefer Adobe Reader over Preview. PDF files download normally with old Mac G5 and transported to iMac open normally. Why can't iMac download a non corrupted PDF file directly pray tell.

Are you still using Tiger 10.4.11 as your profile indicates?
10.4.11 works fine on my old G5. The problem is with 10.8.5 on my new iMac!
Then please uspdate your profile and indicate the new iMac with 10.8.5. IMHO using Preview is much better than Adobe, howeever if you still want to use it please ensure it's up-to-date.
Having done that, the question remains why will 10.8.5 not download a viable PDF file readable by Adobe and by Preview? My G5 does it just fine.
