Mavericks and External Hard Drives

After upgrading to Mavericks, when I put my iMac to sleep, the external HD's no longer go to sleep as they did prior to the upgrade. Any ideas as to how to correct this?

FIrewire or Thunderbolt ext. HD?

FIrewire & Thunder bolt drives are across the board having issues with Mavericks, avoid same until a fix is issued if you can.

many are reporting same, there is a firewire fault and TB HD on external HD from LaCie (Seagate) and from WD especially.

Technicians are looking into it. 😊

Until there is resolution, consider setting up a USB ext. Time machine HD.

Until then consider confining Mavericks use with USB HD.

Ive tested a long line of USB HD on Mavericks, all seem fine.

I am experiencing the same issue. I have a G Tech external drive drive connected to the FW800 port of my Thunderbolt Display, and a 2013 MBA connected to the display via Thunderbolt.

It's great to hear that some are resolving the "no sleep" issue by reverting to USB. Personally, I'll wait for Apple to release a fix that actually solves the problem. I don't have interest in sacrificing performance so my drive can sleep.

I've been hitting the off button on my OWC Firewire drive a couple times a day now since installing Mavericks.

Kind of annoying to have to do this.

This is one of those things that Apple definitely should have caught before releasing Mavericks.

On a positive note though... virtually everything else (except noticeably Tags... W_F) has been an improvement.
