I have backed up my iPhoto library to an external hard drive. How do I add more photos to the external drive

I have backed up my i photo library to external hard drive. Now how do I add additional photos to the external drive?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

That totally depends on how you did the backup which you do not share. If you are using TimeMachine you just always have it running and it will backup hourly. If you use other software you read the instrunpctions for theat software. If you just made a copy if the iPhoto library then you make a new copy of the entire library. If you did something else then you will need to do something else

You need to use an app that will do incremental back ups. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.

I backed up NOT on Time Machine as I want to remove some of my photos from my laptop and then as I add new ones, add them to the external drive..just not sure how to do that. I back up everything through time machine to another external hard drive...but that won't maintain my archived photos that I have removed from the laptop
