iPad lock out after update no icloud to reset ipad

So a family member has an iPad2 that they just recently updated. They did set up an icloud account on the iPad which I could have used to to erase and reset the iPad but when I attempt to log into icloud via computer it says they need to login from the device first. They had a password before on it but when it updated and asked for a password the one they had before no longer worked. When we tryed to connect the iPad to itunes it did not let us in because we can't put a password because its completly locked out. Any programs or anything to completly reset it?
