Mavericks: Where's scrolling direction?

Hi,

I have been going through ALL system preferences options to disable the "natural" scrolling on my IntelliPoint 3 mouse and I couldn't find it. I'm now forced to use a third party software just to make my mousewheel scroll down when I roll it down.

This is a screenshot of my mouse options:

I also tried to find the answer googling it and I didn't find anything.

Another thing I wanted to ask is about the smooth scrolling. Is that related to my mouse's drivers? My scroll is very choppy and never was smooth.

Thanks!

"Intellipoint" is a Microsoft mouse, and as such, you cannot expect a lot in the way of compatibility and features with a Mac and OS X, because it was designed for Windows on a PC.

I have a Microsoft "Comfort Mouse" and I get the exact same preferences for it as you showed because the hardware is most likely "driver signed" for Windows, and OS X doesn't recognize what Windows would. There's not much to a mouse, but it doesn't take much to make a peripheral "invisible" to a Mac. Webcams are a great example of where "plug & play" isn't between OS's.

My Magic Mouse and my trackpad have ALL the preferences, because they were desigend for Mac.

The only difference betwen my "Comfort Mouse" and your "Intellipoint" is that mine allows "Scrolling Speed" adjustment. But as you see, no "natural scrolling" adjustment.
I'd tend to think it IS more of a hardware issue, since the Mac hardware, which is designed for "natural scrolling"... something I've NEVER EVER seen a setting for with ANY Windows version or Windows Mouse I've ever used... has the setting adjustment enabled for both.

Not all mice are universal, and especially with a "days old" OS. That's not saying there won't be an update that'll make it work with nautral scrolling, but it isn't saying there will be either.
I have a Microsoft Mouse because I have a Windows 8 laptop. I have a Mac mouse because I have a Mini. I have the trackpad because it works with much more precision in Photoshop and Fireworks, but it DOESN'T do all the "finger gestures" on the laptop that Mac allows, because Windows isn't desinged to work with a Mac Trackpad, even one that was made by Logitech.

Hi I'm in the same boat

I have apple magic mouse, Mirosoft mouse and Logitech BT mouse.

With Lion I could change the natural scrolling vs standard scrolling, but as you found there is noi such option in mavericks.

I can not find this option with Mavericks, too, the only way to change tha was turn on an pair the magic mouse then uncheck that option (natural scrolling) then turn if the magic mouse, that setting will affect my Microsoft mouse behavior too.

Luckily I have the magic mouse to le me change that setting !!!

Sorry, read turn off (the autocorrect feature making some jokes) šŸ˜

To make the scroll smoother with MS mouse.

1) Install the latest Intellipoint driver (I know it is not even compatible with lion, but works even on Mavericks).

2) Add to tour user account "startup" MicrosoftMouseHelper process.

The problem with these new OSXs is that the Helper does not load automatically, you nee to force it to load on boot in this way.

If you do not do that wpu will have the Microsoft Mouse options on system prefereces panel, but it will not work, the process should be loaded and running all the time.

After that change scroll settins on system preferences.

Bye

Perhaps an idea, a very similar thing happened to me:

I installed mavericks, after that my IntelliPoint-Microsoft-Wireles Keyboard driver ant then I wanted to switch off the natural scrolling direction. But it was not possible, the check-box was not available ...šŸ˜

I didn“t choose the right way of installation and adjusting:

a) Installation of Mavericks

b) After installation go directly in the system preferences and disable natural scroll direction in the mouse options

c) Installation of IntelliPoint-Microsoft-software (lets the checkbox disappear)

d) done !

If you don“t keep the right follow you cannot come back (de-installation of Microsoft-Intellipoint), the check-box does nor appear again.

best regards ...
