Aug 30, 2014 9:12 AM in response to Grammageby LarryHN,No it is not obvious - it most likely is a SD card problem - but until you stop your attitude and stop demanding that your solution be correct (which of course if it were then you would be out of luck and there would be thousands of posts with the same problem) and work with people who have excellent track records of helping cooperative users you will not get anywhere
Your next step is to use a card reader and get the photos off the card and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card
And if you want more help try being polite and helpful for a change

Aug 30, 2014 10:53 AM in response to LarryHNby Marty Roberts,So, I started this thread - running into what is being described too. I never could get mine to work even with a brand new cable. Very mysterious because it worked fine, nothing changed and then it stopped working. I can only think it is something inside my Nikon camera. My solution was to get a card reader and import that way. It is really a bummer though because I still can't import into my iPad and I would before…..

Aug 30, 2014 11:12 AM in response to Marty Robertsby LarryHN,And have formatted the card using the camera as recommended several times above?
Ok
Get the photos off of it (use image capture in your applications folder, use a card reader, or if your camera mounts to the desktop drag them to disk) and then use the camera's format command to erase and reformat your memory card
So once you get the photos off reformat the card as recommended above
Have you verified that the camera is in Picture-Transfer-Protocol (PTP) mode?

Jan 23, 2015 6:33 PM in response to Marty Robertsby bananas13,I had this problem and it was driving me nuts. I tried everything suggested in forums. Was at Office Depot today and lo and behold there was a card reader for $4.99 at the checkout so I got it.
WORKS LIKE A CHARM. I know it doesn't FIX the problem, but it is the easiest workaround ever. The kind I got is really cute and made by Ativa.
Good luck!

A card reader frequently helps. Sometimes the batteries in the camera are just to weak, if the camera s not connected o a power source, or the camera has no mode, where the mac can recognise it as a camera.

Apr 16, 2015 7:14 AM in response to Marty Robertsby raven742,This just happened to me and I finally realized that the mode setting dial on my Nikon DSLR was not on Auto but one of the special settings I rarely use (must have gotten moved when I put the camera in the case). I switched the dial to Auto and iPhoto recognized it just fine.

Dec 29, 2015 4:16 PM in response to Marty Robertsby westcoastone,Hi:
I had the same issue with both my camera and iPhone and found this post: Re: iPhoto won't recognize iphone
This solved the issue instantly. Close all apps and restart without opening windows when logging back in. Then both the camera and iPhone are recognized.

Jan 4, 2016 7:42 AM in response to Marty Robertsby MVP88,Had this happen for the first time today, with both iPhoto (which I still like) and Photos, with both a recent-model Canon camera and my iPhone.
After running through the basic options and noticing that there wasn't much current talk about this on the boards (indicating a lower likelihood of a software upgrade issue), I tried plugging the cable from the camera/iPhone directly into the computer and my camera/iPhone were recognized by all the apps as usual.
In my case, there seems to be an issue with my Belkin USB splitter. Old age of the hardware, power surge damage, upgrade compatibility issue...? Who knows. Anyway, will replace. And that direct-plug-in option is another one people might want to try.

Mar 30, 2016 5:04 PM in response to Marty Robertsby Geetarism,Ok, so I just got back from vacation and plugged my cannon T4i into my Macair's USB and iPhoto brought up the pics but would only load into iPhoto. I used image capture and this allowed my to upload to any folder i like. Hope this helps. I would prefer if a window allowing me to save the pics on the SD card to anywhere on the computer like my PC does but oh well!

Mar 31, 2016 7:27 AM in response to Geetarismby Terence Devlin,Yes it does. But you'll need an external reader that connects by USB. See above:
