Mavericks Wallpaper Issue

Each time I have to do a restart under Mavericks, the "wave" appears instead of the previously chosen picture. Then, to change the wallpaper back to what I want, even though System Preferences shows the correct image, I have to click on another picture, then back to the one I want. Am I missing something? I upgraded from 10.6.8 directly to 10.9 on a mid-2007 iMac and the installation went on with only a few hitches. I'm down to one other problem but I'll open another thread on it. Thanks!

Try removing the com.apple.desktop.plist file from your user/Library/Preferences folder.

I don't know if that is interfering, and it might not be there. It is now stored in a database file in user/Library/Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db

Move that file to your Desktop, then log out and log back in. The file will be recreated and you will need to reset your desktop pictures. Then, see if they stick.

I tried that, several different ways, and the end result is still that I get the "wave" and have to change it manually. I tried moving desktoppicture.db to the desktop and restarted. No change. I moved the item to the trash and restarted. No change. I moved the item to the trash, but the Finder wouldn't let me empty the trash. Restarted, no change. I tried logging out, removing the file and restarting, no change.

I've already filed a bug report with Apple, so I guess I'll just live with this as it is. It is a minor point, but it looks like when they wrote 10.9 somehow "they" didn't feel like this was something they wanted to fix.

Nope, it doesn't keep. No matter what I've tried, I always get the wave after a restart. It's just a minor inconvenience, so I'll hope that Apple fixes it in an update.

You can hope all you want, but I doubt it is a problem caused by some obscure bug in the OS. It is more than likely something in your Account that is causing it. No update will fix that, unless they decide to change the structure of the database that stores the desktop images.

It could be a permission problem on your Library. Run this in Terminal and post what it responds. You can edit out the username if you care:

ls -aled ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/
