audio not working on retina macbook pro 13" (late 2013) after sleep

I have a brand new 13" retina macbook pro (late 2013) running OSX mavericks. The audio stops working after I wake the computer up from sleep.

Things I have already tried:

Putting it to sleep by closing the laptop, or by pressing the power button, or by using the menu option.

Using headphones, both before and after sleep, and plugging in and out afterwards.

Pressing mute or using the menu volume controls

Using the audio MIDI setup

Having programs open, specifically itunes or other AV programs. ie everything has been normal and I've tried it with everything closed.

Restarting the computer does fix the issue but only until I put it to sleep again.

wondering if anyone else found an answer to this issue? I'm hoping at the very least, it'll be fixed with the next update to osx.

as for andy80it, yes problems are everywhere, but this is one of the very few that are found on the mac platform. I have confidence you won't be disappointed after a couple updates.

kind of glad to find that im not the only one experiencing this problem although it took me multiple attempts to find this thread 😠. it really seems we are in the minority of users who have this problem so it seems unlikely they are going to be in a huge rush to fix this problem, but i'll be calling apple support tomorrow to complain/let them know this problem is annoying as ****. Funnily enough half way through writing this i got a phone call and left my macbook, when i come back it had gone to sleep and guess what no sound again after restarting only 25 minutes ago.

So, after a couple more weeks of ownership, this problem seems to have gone away (knocks on wood). I stopped noticing it and then specifically looked for it over the past few days and it never occured.

As to why the disappearance, I'm not quite sure. The one setting I do remember changing that I didn't list in my original post is I unchecked the "put hard disks to sleep when possible" setting in the energy saver panel. But, I also seem to remember the issue still occuring after that, until one day I opened the computer and was like "hmph... it hasn't happened in a while".

Well, hopefully it'll disappear for the rest of y'all and/or Apple will implement a real fix for it sometime. Good luck either way.

No there was no fix in the firmware upgrade if you actually read the description of the update, it only fixes the keyboard and trackpad unresponsiveness(you wouldn't have read it seeing as you said yourself you now have an air). The sound issue is still present as far as I can tell but I am waiting to see if the hard drive sleep has made a difference *fingers crossed*

I have an M-Audio FastTrack Pro and an Apogee GiO. Neither work properly after waking up from sleep. I find I have to cycle the power on both to get them to work properly. Not doing so will result in programs like Logic Pro X hanging if you try to reset MIDI, and the FastTrack Pro doesn't produce any sound.

This is new behavior for Mavericks, so I suspect this is a coreaudio problem. Turning off external audio devices before going to sleep might be a good idea.
