Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have an iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 ghz, 4GB DDR3, 700GB HDD space and running OSX 10.6.8 but when I go to install Mavericks on the internal HDD I get the message 'This disk cannot be used to start your computer'.
Can anyone tell me how to get around this, obviously Snow Leopard is on this disc and started the computer up.

Would you not simply need to download Mavericks from App Store? There is no disk for it.
Go to the Apple menu, top left > about this Mac > and tell us what version it says you are running.
Before you download Mavericks however, check out the Apps you have on your machine. It could be they are not all compatible with Mavericks.
I have downloaded it, no problems, this is when I go to install it.
I don't have any apps installed, the only installed programs are Apple ones.
I am running OSX 10.6.8.

Perhaps the thread I sent may have helped; thanks for the star. Which solution worked for you in the end?
Not found a solution yet, but working through different things in that thread, I'm guessing I might have to do a clean install in the end but still trying hard to avoid it.
Just an idle thought. You may have 4GB of RAM but is it enough if you take into account programs running in the background? Can any be temporarily disabled?
