Number 1 appears over and over in search windows and in Word Docs on my MacMini. Any one know what this is?

I have a weird problem on my Mini. While using Word it started to randomly write 1s and a strange 'f' symbol over and over where ever the cursor happened to be. Then started opening file saving windows. When I restart it goes away but comes back whenever I use Word. I tried unplugging the keyboard but the 1s keep appearing endlessly.

Is it possible that you have a Bluetooth keyboard somewhere that is paired with the Mac? Say, in a drawer or somewhere, where it may have a couple keys held down? Have you tried using a different keyboard? It could be possible that the keys could continue repeating for a short time even after unplugging the keyboard. Try restarting with a different keyboard connected.

How did you do that? That's what it was - a bluetooth keyboard which my kids had spilt a drink on and started fritzing out! You've no idea how much angst you have saved me. You have my sincerest thanks for taking the time to solve my problem. I thought all my files and photos were going to be destroyed by some freaky new Mac virus!

LOL, you'd be surprised by how simple these things can be once you've seen enough of them.

I once had iTunes repeatedly starting up, restarting every time I quit, playing music, then pausing, then playing, then skipping to the next song, etc. Drove me crazy for a full 15 minutes... until I finally noticed that my wife had given our 1-year-old my Apple remote to play with, and he was remotely controlling my Mac. 😁

For about six weeks after we moved into our new house, my PS3 would turn on randomly during the day, which also turned the TV on.

It got to the point where it was almost burning the image of the PS3 X-bar interface onto the plasma screen before I found out why. The Playstation DVD remote was in the top of an unpacked box that we had put the cat bed on. Every time the cat jumped up into bed, he activated the remote and turned on the PS3!!
