Setting up a network between MacOS X Mavericks and Windows 8

Hi,

I searched the internet for some working instructions to set up a network between above mentioned computers. Until now non of the instructions I followed did work, so I like to have an instruction specialy written for above OS's, can someone provide me with a reliable instruction ?? Both computers are up to date, and believing some of the guys ( and girls) online it must be very easy to set up a network, until now I never succeeded in a PC to PC connection, so let's hope for the best in a PC to Mac connection.😀

Nobody has an idea on how to do that, and also that it works ?? I followed already many tutorilas on how to set up a network between the two "rivals", but non of them worked, so I'm waiting for the clue !!

There are no special instructions.

On Mac turn on SMB (Windows Sharing), Set a Workgroup Name on both Mac and Win 8, Do NOT use the Windows Homegroup system, have a Password set on both Mac and Windows users accounts, In Windows open the Network Sharing Center and turn off Homegroup turn on Password protected sharing. Turn off the Firewall on both systems (It is not needed on either).

I did what you wrote above, I see the Mac now on my Windows machine, BUT, when I click in Windows on iMac it asks for a Network password and username, which username is meant ? and which password ? I filled in the password which I use when I start the computer, for both computers the same, but I get an error message. or do I have to make a new uniq username and password somewhere?

When and how do I see the Windows computer on my iMac ?

I found Username and Password. I can see now all my files on the PC.

But what do I have to do, the other way around, to see my Windows files on the Mac ?

Well, I thought I had a network, forget about it !!! after restarting the computers the network was gone, I tried again in the same manor (All the settings were still there) but the network stayed gone !! I do not see my iMac icon anymore on my Windows machine !!!!?????

OK I had it, no network, I exchange files in the future with an USB stick or External HD. The two systems keep on biting each other, it is hopeless.

After a while of looking and searching I found a solution, not a real network, but still I can exchange data, the name of the APP is DUKTO R5, a real gem !
