Mavericks slower than Mountain Lion, what is your experience?

Ya, if I'm watching something on iTunes in the cloud and try to launch Starcraft2 it litterally takes a full min. This used to take about 5 sec on Mountain Lion.

I'm experiencing the same problems. I have a MBP 2.3 i5 with 4GB in ram (late 2011 model) and it was working very good on Mountain Lion. With mavericks it takes a very long time to load safari, itunes and every app that hasn't been opened yet. Another thing I've noticed is that it keeps indexing the hard drive, using significant resources and slowing down the whole system.

Noticeable slowness on my Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012. Program load times are slower, using finder in Coverflow view is off where the highlighted file is not the one showing in the graphic on top. I have freememory and use it quite often but even with max memory still slow.

Yes, launching apps is a little slower for me, although I found my Late 2012 iMac with 8GB RAM a little slower than my Early 2008 iMac with 4GB RAM anyway, which was rather disappointing. Mind you, it's only launching and response that are slower. Calculation and actual work are fast.

Glacially slow. Safari 7.0 is a joke. I use FireFox now.

There may be preferences that can be turned on or off and/or extensions that can be trashed, but I can't be bothered. If I wanted to spend hours figuring out how to make my tools work, I'd buy Windows. Apple needs to get back to simple.

It seems like spotlight keeps indexing when your documents folder is located in a different partition of the system using a lot of resources by doing so. I ended up disabling spotlight indexing.

To disable

sudo mdutil -a -i off

To re-enable

sudo mdutil -a -i on

System is a lot faster now. I know it's not a permanent fix and I miss the instant search features, but at least this allows me to work until apple releases an update addressing this issue.

My macbook pro was really slow after updating to Mavericks. The problem was solved after ereasing the Logmein application. I think that app is uncompatible so far.

Now my mac is running faster than with Lion...

I'm having all kinds of problems with the new Safari. User names and passwords don't work. Facebook and Twitter pictures don't load. I can't scroll down on Twitter past the initial webpage that downloads.

I'm transferring all my bookmarks to Chrome and making it my default browser until Safari gets fixed.

I have a late summer 2007 iMac running 6GB Ram - my update went from Snow Lepord to Mavericks.

I ran some times on launching apps:

Safari 7.0 - 1.93 seconds Safari runs very fast and smooth.

iTunes 11.1.2 - 2.96 seconds

Aperture 3.5 with dual monitors active - 5.65 seconds

iPhoto 9.5 - 3.47 seconds

Pages 5.0 - 6.05 seconds

iMovie 10.0 - 23.09 seconds

I guess it's time to switch. Iphones are not new and groundbreaking anymore, imacs and macbooks are not either, you can see the same or imrpoved technolgies anywhere else. Before, apple was related to quality, not anymore... Their products act pretty much like microsoft products. They lag and are limited on what you can do to them...

Glacially slow under Mavericks. The pinwheel has become a constant companion now, whereas I used to rarely see it at all. I took about 9 months to upgrade to ML and it was great, presumably because all the bugs had been worked out. This is the last time I will update my OS early!

Mavericks is a disaster. I've tried everything. My cheap old PC from 2002 was much faster, even in recent years.
