On my iPad2. Lots of photos have gone from my photo area. I wanted to access my icloud storage area to make sure I have not lost them all but whenever I try to access my icloud account, it keep telling me to set icloud and wants to take me through the whole setup.

I already have an icloud account. I also have a iphone4 and photos go from my phone to my iPad with no problems. I have all the latest IOS7 settings on my iPad and I have checked that all looks ok with icloud in my settings.

Not got IOS7 on my phone yet but I don't see how that affects anything. I just want to open my icloud, I have paid for extra storage, how could I do that without an icloud account ?

There is no specific iCloud area. iCloud is only a storage for various kind of apps and services. At first you would have to set up your iCloud account on your devices in "Settings > iCloud". After a successful set up, you can then use iCloud Mail (with an icloud.com email address) through the Mail app, you can store contacts across your devices by using the Contacts app, events by using the Calendars app etc. You also could backup your phone using iCloud, but this wouldn't store all of your pictures, you could also use photostream to sync the last 1.000 photos across your device.

Ok. I was not aware I could only access icloud via PC / Mac. Hence all my confusion here.

I have now accessed icloud and I cannot see or access any of my photos. I thought they had been saved....Steve Jobs said it all just works. We'll not from where I am standing. Why does it need all this input?

How many other people think their photos are safe, when. that is not the case. I will persist when I have another few hours to spare. I appreciate your help today

Well. I have persisted. I can access everything on icloud...apart from my photos.

My photos have been removed from my IPad (I don't think I had over 1,000). Fortunately, the photos are still on my iphone.

As there does not appear to be any photos on my icloud (why ?), how do I transfer the photos from my phone to icloud?

I am feeling seriously misled by Apple. It appears my photos have not been saved, or am I missing something very obvious ?

Unfortunately, there is no way to access your photos on iCloud easily (via an app or website), the photos of your camera roll are just included in your backup (for the worst case) and the last 1.000 are in photo stream for getting you photos synced between devices.

If you are looking for a cloud storage service, where you can save and easily access your photos, I personally would recommend Flickr (offers you 1,000 GB for free) or Dropbox (offers you a few GB storage for free).
