Importing images from iPhoto into iMovie 10, green image
When importing some images from iPhoto into iMovie 10, some images turn solid green. Is it a bug or a problem with the images themselves?

hi, I have the same problem. Photos taken the same day, same metadata, same size, ......Some of them are imported right and some of them with solid green image.... Can anybody help? Thanks!
I have the same problem here. I didn't install new iphoto, only new imovie. when i restarted the system, images went from green to flickering between green and orange. Any clues? Did anybody trie to upgrade iphoto to see if that solves the problem?
New iPhoto didn't help anything. Another thing to notice: I see noway to work with the ken&burns effect.
I did rebuild the thumbnails in iPhoto but it didn't help. Have anyone tried to be a little more agressive? Rebuilding or reparing iphoto's database helped somebody?
By the while, I own a MacBook Air Mid 2011. Just in case it is hardware related.
I am sorry to say so many things, but I am trying to figure out what is going on and I hope someone else will find a pattern with some of the info given. Some images in my system don't have the problem. The ones that do have the problem are taken with a Canon powershot sx230 hs.
The images I'm importing from iPhoto have all been taken by the same iPhone and mostly on the same day so the format of the image is not the issue.
One thing I have noticed is that if, in iPhoto, you edit that particular image (a bit of cropping and colour adjustment), it will then work fine. As this reduces the size (weight) of the images, I'm thinking that the bug might related to image size. But all in all, that's a bug that needs to be fixed by Apple.
Regarding the Kern Burns effect, you have to select an image in your project, click on "adjust" (top right), then select the Crop function. You will then see the ken burns option.
Yes, format, size and source of image is not an issue in my case. 90% over the 300 pics were correctly imported but 10% are shown as solid green, even though you can bearly see the image in the very first 10 seconds right after the import by dragging the mouse over the pic. Then, you can't see it ever again. Very weird.
I even created a single event with one non-imported pic.... no luck. I have also exported the pic from Aperture to my desktop and then import it into iMovie from there..... no luck.
By the way, I have a MBA 2011 4 GB, 128 GB. Non other app open aside from iMovie, so I have 1.5 GB of RAM free. Over 128 GB in HDD, 100 are used.
Thanks for the responses
The same thing is happening to me, except the pictures are stored in Aperture. Pictures were taken with an iPhone. Lastest versions of Aperture, iMovie and Osx. The pictures work fine in iMovie 9, but are solid green in iMovie 10.
Hi D.o.u.g.,
Could you tell us what macbook do you have? By now the only pattern is having an MBA 2011.
Hi fabriceburtin,

Thanks for the Kern Burns effect help. I really appreciate.
Yes - I'm also using Mac book Air 2011.
I think we've nailed it...
I have a Macbook Pro early 2011. I should state that the thumbnail view is fine. But the view in the picture editing window, or in a shared (exported) movie is solid green.
Ok so I have found a workaround. Since iMovie was seeing the previews from aperture correctly, but not the full picture, I went back to aperture and did a minor edit on each of the pictures in question. Now if I reinsert the picture into my timeline the new version (with the minor edits) shows up fine. I hope this doesn't happen too often. This is a pain. The edit I did was to use the magic wand. I suspect it doesn't matter what you do.
Yes. If you refer back to my earlier post this is what I have done using iPhoto.
Ah yes. I missed that first time through!
