After up-grading to OSX 10.9 HP Scan for my HP Scanjet 8300 will scan but, not save scanned images.
First time it save a blank inage and after the second try I get an error message that says file may be read only.
I reloaded latest HP drivers and no joy for a fix.
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)
Try using the Image Capture app in your Applications folder instead.
Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.
Launch Image Capture.
Click the very small black box bottom right side of the Image Capture window.
You'll see this pop up menu: Connecting this (device) opens:
You can select a default app to scan (Image Capture) and select a folder from the Imort To pop up menu on the right to save scanned files to.

When I lainch Image Capture it says no camera or scanner connected.
Also I don't see a small black box at the right bottom of my screne.
Yeah... seems that the scanner's not supported by OS X 10.9 yet. Bloody annoying.
Try using Preview, there is a scan capture in that program. It works better for now. Similar problems with HP and Jaguar. It was fixed quickly.
Nice try and good advice but, it is grayed out on my preview.
There is a work-around for this issue:
Go to preferences -
Select HP Scan and re-open preferences
go to printers/Scanners
Change all the open in to Preview
Then you can use the Select Buttons on your scanner ( Not HP Scan Pannel )
Pressing the physical scan button on the scanner will send the scanned image to preview.

my HP Scanjet 4370 is not recognized by your suggested aplication Carolyn (although I restarted and reconected scanner)
in your opinion,...it's is possible to think on a HP solution or similar?

Sorry morriss1, but my "import from scanner" option on Preview app menu is not available...

There have been similar problems with hp and Mac OS X I think with lion and perhaps an earlier version. The problems were fixed quickly. However both companies subscribe to the NIH; not invented here. I am not home but look in the file menu there may be something similar. I am on the hp forum also. The techs at hp need to use the mavericks program on their computers.

I just download the Mountain Lion 10.8 driver package from HP and reinstalled it and now I am able to save scanned documents
