Can't access Mac over network since Mavericks update

Help! Since the update to Mavericks I can't access my iMac over my home network using my Nexus 7 tablet. I used to do it flawlessly right before I updated from Mountain Lion.

I was using ES File Explorer to browse my shared folders on my Mac from my Android Tablet right away and now I keep getting asked for a username and password to connect. I type it correctly but still not able to connect. I tried other file browing apps for my tablet (File Manger, AndSMB,...) but still unable to connect. The apps can scan my network and find the server address (iMac) but can't get access to it.

I must say that the Tablet can access the internet so it's not Tablet network settings related.

I tried the workaround found here http://cammodude.blogspot.ca/. Still not working. Any suggestions?

Is your Mac's IP static/reserved? Is your Android TV capable of some kind of terminal emulator program? Maybe you could ping the mac's IP on the sftp port (22). I just tried an app called "port detective" that I got from the Play store on my phone and that worked fine. I just put the IP of my computer in and the port range of 22-23 (it didn't let me say 22-22). It showed port 22 as open.

Thanks for your reply!

My IP is static and is attached to the MAC address of my iMac running Mavericks.

I just downloaded the Port Detective as you suggested and tried the port range of 22-23 for my computer's IP address, and I get the message 'No open ports found...' So, guessing I need to open the port then? I don't have a firewall running on my iMac, do I need to somehow open the port on my computer, or through my router?

Any help appreciated. Many thanks.

Try going back and checking the step 3 on the linked instructions for remote login where it mentions:

Step 3: Now enable “Remote Login” in the Sharing menu of System Preferences.Read more: http://www.shoutpedia.com/transfer-files-mac-os-x-mavericks-android-phone-wifi-e asy-way/#ixzz30iEam8MC

That's the part that will allow it. I've got "Remote Login" checked there' and and then make sure you have whichever user(s)/groups added for the login you're using. I have that set to Administrators and on then on my phone I have it set up with computer IP, port 22, my computer username which is a First Last type format with the space...whatever it normally says on your login screen on your computer or when you get prompted to allow software installs etc. and then the password.

I just checked this again, and all seems to be set-up correctly, see screen cap here:

My username is as you say, First Name_Last Name, then normal password I use to login.

But, I did disable 'Filter annonoymous internet requests' in my modem/router set-up and now I can find the port 22 using Port Detective, but still can't connect using ES File Browser, I get the below error over and over again.

So, I'm thinking it could be some other setting in my router/modem? Although, I turned the router firewall off completely, and still couldn't connect, so I'm pretty stumped.

Any other thoughts?

I know I've had instances where I have to disable either wifi or mobile network for things to actually work on a few rare occassions. Since you're needing something on a LAN, maybe try disabling the mobile network radio on your phone's settings to force it to look at the wifi's LAN connection only.

If that doesn't work, let me know what brand/model your router/gateway is and I'll look up the documentation to recommend which settings to look at.
