How to prevent cursor blinking?

In Mountain Lion I was able to stop cursor blinking in some applications by typing this in Terminal:

defaults write -g NSTextInsertionPointBlinkPeriod -int 100000000000

In Mavericks, however, this no longer works. I wonder why? Does anyone know a workaround?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

I've found the answer here: http://osxnotes.net/defaults.html.

The new command to type in Terminal is:

defaults write -g NSTextInsertionPointBlinkPeriodOn -float 999999999999

Works for me in Mavericks.
