Safari 7 Windows Completely Invisible

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and Safari 7.0 and it appeared to work fine. But yesterday, Safari froze and had to be forced quit. Now every time I open Safari, absolutely no window appears. I can not see preferences, browser windows - nothing. But I know the program seems to be working, for if I use the Apple menu or keyboard shortcuts, Safari shows windows are open winder "Window" but they are completely invisible. Any idea what can be causing this? I already emptied cache and restart my computer and ran in 32 bit mode. I don't know what the cause is.

Hi ...

Try troubleshooting extensions and third party plugins.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

I just upgraded to Mavericks last night ...

I don't know if this answers your question or not ... but I thought I had the same problem and came across your question. I would launch Safari and it would look like it started but nothing would be visible.

But if I

- quit ALL programs (you will likely have to click apple symbol do a force quit and relaunch finder)

- then launch safari the menu bar is faded but visible at the top of the screen

- click file new window

Now Safari is open and working like normal. If I quit Safari and launch it again it appears with a new window like normal. But if I just close the Safari window it goes back to the new weird problem. Clearly a bug ...

Again, I don't know if this is the same problem as you have, but it sounds similiar.

Well, I figured my problem out. It had an extended desktop on. I had a connection to our TV with display mirroring on. I guess after the Mavericks update it changed it to mirroring off and puts into some sort of extended desktop, so applications were opeing on the other non existant display. I will play with this some more, but it solves my problem.

This doesn't sound like the same problem that you are having. But try moving your mouse to every edge of the screen, if the mouse goes off the screen then this might be what is happening to you?

You're definitely not the only one @kyle_a12, I'm also seeing this occasionally since Mavericks upgrade. And not just with Safari – happening right now with Opera.

The windows does still exist, it's listed under the window menu. I can even choose 'minimise', see the window in the dock, click on it to maximise, whatch the animation as it zooms back to full size – only to then see it go invisible as soon as it reaches the correct position.

Often a restart of the App with the problem window seems to fix the issue, certainly rebooting the computer works.

And it's not that the window is on another space, or extended desktop.

Very odd. (And nralston's issue is definitely different.)

Just thought I would chime in, as I too have this wierd issue after upgrading from Lion to Mavericks.

Safari seems to have "ghost" window that is not visible at times. I can see it in the list of windows, but cannot change to it. It doesnt seem to pop up at all. Sometimes I can select it, and then close it with cmd-w but sometimes, like right now, I cant close safari at all, because of this "stuck", hidden window that wont go visible.

I am running a dual-head nvidia display, not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it's the same thing as I had with Lion, and to my knowledge, did not exist til Mavericks upgrade.

UPDATE: just tried to do a "reset safari" from safari menu. Will see if this helps with this problem.
