How do I display just the day of the week in Numbers app (sun, mon, etc)

Question

I have a cell that contains a date. I want to format the cell to only display the day of the week.

Currently it looks something like:

Sun, Oct 27, 2013

I want it to look like:

Sun

There is no option to only show the day name.

You can enter the date in one cell (lets say D1), then use the formula in E1:

E1=dayname(D1)
